LAN does not have a valid IP configuration

1-you connect to the router in "his laptop"??? there is not router in a laptop.

2-re-installing windows will not help

3-If you are connecting to his laptop you need to "bridge" the connections\

In the Windows 7 computer, assign this IP address:

IP addr: 192.168.1.253
Subnet: 255.255.255.0
DefGw: 192.168.1.254
DNS: 192.168.1.254

Use this, and try to open yahoo or google or wherever you want... See if it works.

Nope, i didnt alter. The only funny thing I did was, I kicked the cable thrice to unplug it from the NIC... LOL.

So when you say you "kicked the cable thrice to unplug it", you mean that you literally kicked it with your foot? And you haven't been able to connect to the network since?

At the risk of sounding obvious, maybe you have physically damaged your NIC? Did that not occur to you when it stopped working after being kicked?

You may be right. But, I can see the green and orange LED blinking in the NIC, when I connect the LAN cable to it. Does it not mean that the NIC is still good?

1) I use the same cable to connect to internet with my Laptop which works well. My Laptop runs on XP.

2) How will i bridge connection?

Your issue is that the DHCP server doesn't give you any IP address configuration, so by manually switching to static, your problem is solved. Now, since you are connected to the net, trace why your computer wasn't given an IP address... I suspect that there's a DHCP reservation that's stuck in the router...

Hmmm, I don't know your router's make/model... So, the best advice would be for you to poke around in DHCP related configuration... Btw, it's 7:24 AM over here, I'm going to get some sleep... I'll check back later.

DHCP server works by "marking" your NIC's MAC address as "given IP address", thus it will not be given any IP address configuration anymore. As I stated earlier, maybe your MAC address is stuck at the router's DHCP server's reservation, thus your computer doesn't get any IP from it. You need to flush that "stuck" record...

Err... I don't know about that... you may try... If it still fail (you still get 169.254.x.y), then you need to get that router configuration fixed...
