Will speed be unnoticeable in a few years?

With the speed that new chips are coming out, will it ever get to the point where we just stop? Where the operations get so fast you don't even notice the difference between two completely different chips?

For example, it doesn't matter if you have 60 frames going, the human eye can only see 30.

What if we get to the point where it's so fast we can't tell the difference anymore?

Yes and Yes. I don't live in on a tropical island and I don't spend my time choking Asian soldiers. I don't have a nano suit and I don't have an HUD when I look around. I don't walk around the city with a rifle and I don't see any aliens.

Yes,,, because Frame Rate Does Matter.

30FPS from thr Human Eye is not the same as 30FPS from a Computer Screen.
Trust me,, run the tests,, 60FPS or better in a game looks far better than 30FPS
You can see anything from ghosting to screen tearing at 30FPS with in game Frame Rates.



But I also believe that some day (if the human race doesn't destroy itself first), we will see PC's so fast that hardware won't matter so much.

I was actually watching someone playing their x box the other day, and I looked at the tv revealing a basketball match. I thought to myself, what is he playing if there's a game on...? yeah, it took me a moment to figure it out.

Actually, since humans adapt fairly quickly, one would notice the difference.

This is not entirely true, and it is kinda taken out of context.

Yes the human eye can only see 30 FPS. But, video in of itself is different and we view it differently.
It is not easy to explain, and it sounds contradictory, and there has been a lot of discussion/debate over the decades of what is a good frame rate for games.

Technically speaking,, Movies are the only thing we really don't care about frame rates on, so long as they are running at roughly 30FPS.

The simple answer is, if it's running at 30 or 60 FPS, and it looks like crap, it doesn't matter that we can only see 30 FPS, we are still watching crap.

However,, yes, I think that we will get to Process, or, overall PC speeds that it won't make a difference

Computer speed has become very exponential at the moment, and the speed over the previous generation of hardware isn't as noticeable as what it was say, 5 years ago.

Hardware is more designed for tomorrows computers more than todays.

Awww... you guys forgot one factor... Software. If we are to use DOS in a 3.2GHz octo core/16 thread XEON monster with 36GB of RAM, everything will feel VERY FAST !!! It's lightning speed ON A DOS... I'm sure, whatever the hardware we'd have in the future, the software will have enough complexity to bog it down to the level that we'll all say "bah, it's too slow, is it malware? virus?"...

Trust me...

Remember, back then Bill Gates said, 640k is enough for everyone, now my Firefox is using 700MB memory, iTunes clocking at 150MB, Explorer @ ~100MB, and many more...
