I can't get subtitles to work in Win7 X64. (In x86 no problem)
I use vsfilter and dropped the files in C:\Windows\SysWOW64 and in the system32 folder. registered the file but no subtitles.
ffdshow isn't working (yet) with Win7 so that didn't work either.
Anyone know how to get subtitles in Win7 X64.

Thanks

There were a couple of posts here and there in this forum - however, which app are you talking about?

In WiMP I get STs just fine, even on MKVs - but in WMC I get none....

Ok just saw above post

Works fine in Media center as well

same DVD

Added

Note it might be because I've got VLC and PowerDVD (came with Blu Ray DVD writer) already installed the LIBDVDCSS standard DVD encryption and menu handling stuff might be picked up by Windows Media Center.

If you haven't any standard DVD playing program already on your computer it's possible that the Windows Media Center might be hobbled when playing a commercial DVD -- don't know.

Suggest you install VLC -- it's only a small program and then try Media CENTER again.

Note not Windows Media Player of course.

See http://www.sevenforums.com/media-ce...ayer-center-problems-mkv-files-srt-files.html for the discussion we had on this previously. There is a solution in there after digging down a bit. I have not had a chance to actually try it yet....

However, it does involve installing FFDShow (and / or installing Shark007's Win7 Codec package) to get them to work....

This was also .MKV specific, as far as actual discs, I am not sure yet how to change that - I know there is a setting in WM to allow 'captions' only when muted or always on but thus far I have only seen that to work with live TV, not movies....

I've managed to get subtitles functional in 7077 x64, however it did require a LOT of reg hacking. Main complaint was that before WMC did not like .mkv/mp4 subs (I watch a lot of anime). Videos now render via ffdshow x64 (from tryouts svn), tested on graphedit. Other 'fixes' listed caused audio issues for me. Anyway, here's the changes I made via regedit after installing ffdshow:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\Wow6432Node\CLSID\{04FE9017-F873-410E-871E-AB91661A4EF7}\InprocServer32]
*modified to use x64 ffdshow path (ffdshow.ax, can just search for it)
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\DirectShow\Preferred]
*changed all filters using CLSID of Microsoft DTV-DVD Video Decoder to CLSID of ffdshow. Had to take ownership/set to administrators of this key.

Reboot, enjoy.
Please export the keys unmodified in case you want to roll back to default.
Let me know if this does/doesn't work for you, I'd like to integrate a more permanent solution.

Subtitles in x64 Media Center are no longer an issue.

I have released v1.1.5 of the Win7x64 Components which includes a stable release of DirectVobSub. This subtitle render is not enabled by default in this release because I am awaiting feedback from users about its performance.

Once you have installed v1.1.5 open the settings application using a rightclick and choose Run as Administrator, then on the config TAB, in the lower right, you can enable this renderer.

Please notice that I am not a regular reader here and if you have issues with any type of playback please take the issue to my forum. http://shark007.net/forum
