2 anti virus in one pc?

Back to AVAST V5+ Only Now...

Well after installation and performance issues in Win7-ULT-x64 OS w/ System Suite v10+ i have uninstalled it, just have AVAST V5+ for malware intrusions now, working fine that way, two days now. Anyway Yes, i know the cautions running more than one (of certain) antispyware programs, possibly one of the core reasons why System Suite V10+ did not work properly while coupled with avast... Anyway The Win7-ULT-x64 issues never cease for me, I had to uninstall Google's Chrome PLUS+ "Chromium" browser and fully clean it from system and reinstall as a class not registered error would not go away even after re-registering the needed files, claiming Possession of it's files, and general cleaning of cache, temp, favs visited etc. etc. etc. now reinstalled fully Chromium Google Chrome "PLUS+" Seems ok once again... will see. As for IE v8 x86 mode, heck it won't even load into task manager & memory space LOL so i use x64 IE v8+ and no problemo's. Anyway that's my recent OS 7 Plight for sanity!!! Enjoy your on & offline time(s)!...~<(____)~CheerzZz.

Ex-Brit; I couldn't agree more.

NightHawk you are very correct sir.

All others thanks for Your invaluable input as well...

PEACE!

To respond to that I recently went for a 30 day trial with Vipre and still saw AVG on but disabled in the msconfig just for the IE security toolbar option without any clashes. From the findings there it walks right past AVG, NOD32, Avast, and a number of other av and antimalware programs plus is far lighter on resources.

I had to give that one the "thumbs up" for being a top notch software even finding things hidden inside a zip being stored on one drive but never opened! Their free Vipre Recovery Program cleans just about anything possible off of a bug infested system when tested. I knew the test machine was loaded quite well with all sorts when running the tool on it!

After downloading/running several gigs of malware with my Sandboxie/Returnil setups I can say I have been 110% secure.

Heard it a million times before that no security setup is 100% and all I can say is that you don't know how to be secure is what the real problem is.

Don't visit this or that site or download this or that is so broken record!

With the right setup you can surf anywhere, download and run anything in complete safety.

Not true. The only complete safety is to unplug your computer.

maybe, but you represent a small group of people who actually use and implement the security the way it is supposed to be. Most people who have purchased computers dont know that much about software, how it is installed, what malware is or even adware. They just know that the computer is supposed to have AV, but they dont know how it works. People who delve into computers head first and really learn them know whats best.

I would say you're pretty lucky then, It is still better to have safe surfing habits with good security than to try and attain a bullet proof system just so you can go anywhere and do anything on the web.

When you consider the large variety of av and other protection programs available one other things to look at besides which two av programs will work together and not clash are what av programs will not clash with what you have on already as far as your main programs!

When having problems appear with one specific dvd burning program the support advised right off to disable any av programs or protections installed. AVG is disabled for that problem while keeping the security enabled. And having tried out Vipre that saw no conflicts with either. Likewise with any other combo you want to look to see if one or two will be a problem with anything else.

I use Avast as my "on guard" AV, it is the active AV. I installed Avira without the active guard (you can chose not to install that option during installation). I now have Avira as an on demand scanner, both for full scans, and as a choice in the right click context menu. Avira scans fine with Avast still active on my system. A Guy

For the most the MS Security Essentials will go on with just about any other av program since MS developed it to be that way. The problem with it however was seeing "update available" popups cutting right into full screen programs with the auto check for updates box left checked.

The one tried here afterwards however includes a rather non intrusive firewall in the Premium version. When plugging a flash drive an immediate prompt to scan it appears on that one while for those who prefer to keep the UAC off this works as far as not being a constant prompter.

Apparently from a regular user I wouldn't need the IE security bar option found in AVG and would be able to say good bye to that program(free builds anyways) for the typical 2yr. licensed protections. IF you want even more one thing not seen with other av programs is the 3 or more unlimited number of pcs in one home license to cover an entire family.

(Of course that can also help with more frequents custom setups like dual boots where Windows is reinstalled more often as well as having more then one version on.)

Win7-ULT-x64 Firewall & MS Security Essential ONLY

yes you read right, that's all that I have for protection, and I am very glad of it...! After getting very very teed off and stressed over AV Protection and constantly having to:

1) Restore back (LOL HA HA if the points were not malwared!!!, more often than not when i had trouble, they were).

2) restore back from system image (if i was so fortunate to have a recent image backup)

3) reinstall windows 7 and press on, reinstalling everything once again. (I cannot count the times...-=8^( ...-=8^)

Anyway now using Win7-ULT-x64 Firewall and MS Security Essentials (Set the way it works for me.) And also using Win7-ULT-x64 backup service, backing up to images with it, I can then reboot, load up Win7-ULT-x64 repair cd and restore from a separate hard-drive in no time at all. 21GB (Is what I am currently at now, it will backup and or restore that 21GB in less than 3 minutes...! (Dynamic Disks Of Course) I really like this method of protection and recovery, I was running out of options indeed. All is good now, however yesterday i was downloading frostwire (Because I do a lot of downloading and I clicked and installed the wrong program! needless to say it installed some hacked plug-in that was trying to access my online stuff (so it said and couldn't and many many error requestors along with other stuff like firefox v3+ downloads malfunctioning, so I restored with windows 7 backup from my archives of system images and I was back doing my pc stuff before 5 minutes were up, very nice and need I say more? Thanks and yes i still have hope for M.S. If they were out to get me as some people think, well silly why would they -=8^) anyway Hope from windows productivity and freedom as well as happiness is MINE once again, Enjoy Your online times.

Well it's interesting that when running a free system rescue program and then a 30 day trial for one more recent and I have to say far more updated av program with a firewall included the initial scan found things no other av program, spyware/adware remover ever found. Trojans and trojan droppers hidden in download still being stored for originally trying out on XP.

Unfortunately the av program also removed them entirely now making it harder for seeing how other programs not tried out yet would either notice or pass right by. Note the AVG build here of course is the free version not the full retail which may also had picked up on them having the latest definitions.

These also passed online scanners as well being tucked away inside the zip files downloaded showing the concept of multiple layers and access to more then program to see which will work better is almost a must have. It was interesting to note that without the IE security bar active in the AVG free edition being that one additional layer a trojan slipped right past the notice of the free edition while the MS SE alerted me to it! I then re-enabled the security bar but have AVG on the disabled list at the same time.

Apparently the new program on now will alert the user to bad sites with the security bar and regardless of which browser you are running. I still like to see things for myself however. :D

Security always starts with the user. Where you go on the web, what you down load and from where. Downloading a simple thing as a video player from the wrong site can have you in a world of do do in a heart beat. If you think you need a download or a update go to the home page IMHO.

The one thing found out fast with the present av/firewall combo software used here is that when arriving at any site where any form of malicious code is detected the firewall blocks any view of the site itself. I removed the older protections due to no longer needing those with the more effective software on now.

But even with the older a little outdated protections the user is often the blame for many bugs getting on in the first place simply from the lack of experience in coming across bad sites during searches or running smack into one while looking for something specific which results in leaving themselves exposed!

Note that even experienced users can also run into bad sites at time but usually know how to back out of bad situations once red flags come up in some form. Paying attention helps!
