Hello,

I have an interesting problem that I could really use some help with. I am using a Dell Latitude E5500 with Windows 7 that is only two weeks old and really hasn't had much abuse at all. My problem is when I try to run a video that I have copied to the hard drive of the computer, the video runs choppy, similar to a CD skipping. However, if I run the video from an external drive, like my little thumb drive, it runs perfect. What would be causing this? Also, I tried running the video in WMP and VLC with the same problem in both.

Please help, I love my new computer and I just want it to start working...

I'm trying to avoid downloading a program to help me with the system specs, so thank you for leading me to the forum post, that helped a lot. OK they have been updated to the best of my ability, does that help?

As a general rule, whenever you get new components (or machine) it is a good idea to go the mfr's site and see if ANY of the drivers have been updated. It is also a good idea to obtain drivers from the machine mfr rather than a component mfr because OEM components are often altered by flash, firmware, or other tweaks to suit a mfr's particular application.

Slightly off topic, but to your statement above: SIW is an executeable--download it and run it, no installation required. If, after you've used it and got the info you need, just delete the .exe file.

What is an mfr site and why isn't stuff updated when I get the computer?

Sorry for not being more clear. Mfr is abbreviation for manufacturer.

You have a Dell machine. I did not look up the specs but let's say, for example, it has NVIDIA integrated graphics (graphics built-in to the mobo rather than a separated gfx card). The first place to search for graphics updates is at Dell, not NVIDIA.

Now why do all of this with a new machine or component. Many times, often due to the time, from when you purchased the item and when it was built, upgrades have been made.
