Hi jelintaric,

Some questions:
  1. How long have you left it after boot? Please wait 20 minutes and see if explorer loads. This will tell me if the process is locked or if something is just slowing it down. i.e. I want to see if the problem is explorer or another influence.
  2. Are there any on screen error messages saying that explorer has failed to load (or anything else suspect)?
  3. Is there anything in the Windows event logs to suggest what might be tying up or killing the EXPLORER process? (especially disk errors)

Some general maintenance to find problems and speed up your system:

Hello !! Welcome to SF !!

You could try to create a new User Account and see if that works. Login to Safe Mode and see if that works fine. Or Enable the Build-in Administrator.

When you reach the Desktop Press Ctrl + Alt + Delete then Start Task Manager
Then File > New Task > CMD

Then under Command Prompt type in net user administrator /active:yes

Then Log Off the Account then when you log back in you'll find an additional account called "Administrator" Login under that account and Test it.

Also in Safe Mode with Networking download and Run Malwarebytes.

Hope this helps,
Captain

it means you need to boot in safe mode with networking

so that you have internet connection and then download Malwarebytes and full scan your pc afterwards

Appologies, I couldn't get on line yesterday due to business concerns.. I'm ususlly don;t leave people hanging like that. ;)

So...

Follow-up's
Did you try my last two suggestions, defragmentation and SFC /SCANNOW.
Also I agree with Cpt.Jack, a check for Malware and Virus' is called for (just to be on the safe side)

New Stuff
Another option that we hadn't discussed was replacing the explorer.exe with the one on your installation DVD, you'll need to do this from SAFEMODE. But please run the SFC first.

What really interests me is why there are two explorer processes running. In windows XP this most likely would be your issue. However Windows 7 allows this to happen and you can set processes to run as separate instances on the exe's shortcut properties (advanced area). But the question is why?

So lets look into that. type MSCONFIG into search and open up the program. On the first screen select 'selective start-up' and then click on the 'startup tab'. This shows the programs that boot at start up (with the exception on those in the *run* areas of the registry and the startup folder/s (we can talk about those later). Disable (by un-checking) any processes that are not fundamental to windows booting. If you are unsure you can google the process, or post a picture here. Pretty much, I leave on my sound drivers, antivirus, Windows Operating System, tv card, graphics card, language filoes, office, java, and the default manager. I turn off - Printers, toolbars (including BING), adobe, google update, and anything else not microsoft. If you;re unsure leave it on and post the exe name here.

Also download this software called process explorer, with it you may be able to see what is causing both explorers to open.

There are some other less likely scenario's and the other start up areas to check, but i've written a fair bit tonight. So lets look at the above first.

Tim
