Simply look back at when the 7000 builds became available with everyone scrambling back in January... at the "end of the week into the weekend"! The 7077s were seen one week apart when? on fridays! It seems to fit a pattern there for sure.

Leaving little items behind in the registry and other places like I was saying keeps you from reinstalling and reusing the same shareware downloaded over and over by repeating the time allowed. That insures you only see the original amount of use for those.

What you do here is simple. Gets over that problem (in 98% of cases)

1) Image your system BEFORE install.
2) Install
3) When the 30 days or so expires RESTORE image made in step 1)
4) Re-install product again as NEW.

Imaging a system with something like Acronis only takes around 15 mins even on a largish installation -- this is why I always advocate splitting the OS off from the rest of your Disk drives -- install it on its own partition.

Disks can be large these days e.g 1TB or even bigger -- having a 1TB C: drive isn't IMO the best use of a disk in any case.

Sometimes people get wise to this these days and treat the date NOT from the date of installation but date of download. You can't download again either unless you give them a different email address. Even nastier they check your IP address so they'll know whether it's YOU or not. Even on a Dynamic IP as most ISP's hand out now you can still get the IP of the "Offending" computer.

Usually however simple re-installation as above works.

I use this method in any case for installing ALL major software as I hate cleaning out Registry entries etc if I want to uninstall the product.

I also really HATE those download programs that offer to scan your computer, fix registry entries, update drivers etc. - For a start they could be full of spy/crap/adware or even worse and secondly they often do an initial scan and then direct you to a "PAID FOR" or "PRO" version to complete the actual function you want -- real "Sneakware".

The downloads have their own builtin timers to cancel themselves out.

Likewise the 7000 builds pending the RC release are geared to extend past the expected release dates for both partner and public to allow download and upgrade time there as well as those that will simply remove the 7000s and wait for the retail release if not the RC. It's kind of like seeing a self detruct mechanism written into softwares there.

your right about that but id rather not have things being forced on my registry *after* i unnistall the softtware...
which is why i only use portable software (except for Office and app needing some form of key....)
it helps when reinstalling as you dont have to look for anything to keep your settings (just move the folder where the app resides to a Flash drive and presto your setting go where ever you go...)
