What portable apps are you trying to run? Could you have a virus? Download Malwarebytes and see.

Are they not compatible with Windows 7? Try running in compatibility mode for XP.

Finally, could you describe how they don't run? What happens when you try?

I tried to run Office 2007 and Camtasia and I got the check online solution window. Even in compatibility mode I get the same message. No viruses, no malware present!

I run 310 apps on LiberKey and 74 other apps, all from my D partition.

I recently converted from XP and have had virtually no problems with compatibility.

Yes, you're correct, I'm a portable apps nut.

How exactly do you define LiberKey as portable since it requires installation?

Portable use (installed on USB key, external hard drive, music player such as iPod, ...)
It is possible because these applications have been made portable. For example, LiberKey installed on your portable device can be plugged in any computer.
Immediately you have under hand all your familiar tools.

Yes, Microsoft Office 2007 Enterprise Edition and it does very well.

I use Word and Outlook many times a day and Excel quite frequently.

This is also a full portable, not simply a regular install on the D drive. All the registry entries and user settings are in the programs own folder on the D drive. It is also software I have purchased and properly registered.

I must admit this is the most challenging conversion I have done as yet.

Jeff:
I'm new to portable apps, and will be setting up a suite to run on my desktop and flash drive. After I get that under my belt, I would love to make Office 2007 portable. Since it was challenging for you, would you be so kind as to lay out the steps you followed to save me a lot of time, tears, and grief?
Thank you,
Dick Y

I should have prefaced my post above with a more generalized question:
Since I'm starting from ground zero with portable apps for my desktop and my flash drive, would some kind soul lay out the steps they used to set up such an environment? That would be much appreciated because it would save me from googling all over the web and wasting a lot of time.

Thanks in advance,
Dick

I'm sure some more knowledgeable members will come along, but I have a 1 Gig usb stick with a number of portable apps on it. It's been a while and I can't remember how I started it, but adding new programs is easy. AS good place to start is Portable Apps

Portable Apps

Just make sure it's Apps with an s, not a z, enough said.

They have a preconfigured suite you can use

Suite

You can add and remove apps from that starting point.

I have PStart menu on my USB

PStart

Much easier to find and launch your apps with a start menu

Clipboard01.jpg

I think I originally found a suite on Technibble (a great resource as well)

Thank you, A Guy. You've helped me a lot with the sites you mentioned.
To you, or anyone else - does this "plan" of mine make sense; or can you suggest a better one:
I have W7 on a desktop, with 2 separate drives (80 gig and 500 gig), and a 16 gig flash drive.
I want to replace as many/all of my programs that had originally been installed on my OS drive (to reduce/eliminate as many registry entries as possible etc.)
So, I'm planning to set up a master folder on my data drive with portable apps, and run these on my "mainframe."
Then, I'll also set up my flash drive similarly, so I can take that with me to fix family PC problems from.
Does that make sense?

Continued thanks,
Dick

It makes sense, and should work fine. Personally I have plenty of HDD space, and great speed, so feel no need to do a lot of the "speed tweaks". But portable programs work just as good from an internal drive. A Guy

But portable programs work just as good from an internal drive

They also run lightning fast on a RAM drive. On my home desktop I run all of my portables from my RAM disk. It spoils me when I run the same programs off my thumb drive. There's no comparison. They open instantly, and run much faster on the RAM drive.
