Apple Is Now Bigger Than Microsoft: The Most Valuable Tech Company

man, my job is directly related to M$, if they lose, i lose my Job and end up on the street
But you know what, I’m not worried at all !! Because the last time i saw someone actually using a MAC was Jan, 2009 !! , he walked in to the meeting room with macbook Air, and for some reason he was so happy about himself like a peacock.
That stupid look on his face brought a smile to mine and i was thinking to myself, WTF is he so happy about.

He probably thought that he was looking sharp and would be the envy of every tech guy in the room. And after the meeting, everyone would walk up and go "Is that a Mac?" "Can I look at it?".....

Was he still happy at the end of the meeting when no one really cared about the Mac? (Its just a PC after all) If so, then it was his first corperate meeting.

Edit: On Topic, Apple only surpassed MS for a few hours. MS is back on top I think.

The only reason why Apple are doing well is because of the iPT, iPhone and iPad. They hardly sell any computers. I only know one person in 'real life' that has a Mac.

Hp killed the Slate. Why?????? I was looking forward to buy one too. I guess we will have to wait for the other companies to come out with ones. Asus is making an eeePad and will release this fall. Asus invented netbooks, so I think they will also make an excellent tablet.

In regards to the Ipad. Does anyone know when the Hp Slate (which Microsoft has talked up so much) is coming out?

I don't think the slate will own the ipad, I don't know anyone that thinks it will.

However, Apple is not bigger than MS. They briefly had an advantage in terms of total shares which doesn't really mean anything in terms of profits, size of company, market share, etc.

I think choices of application does matter.
I use Macbook for my photography (P.S. and Aperture), because, its rock stable handling big files.
But, for other day to day works, I prefer Windows PC for wide range of programs.
I cant say that much about games, because I am not an avid gamer.
For mobile, I would always prefer Nokia Symbian OS based phones and Blackberry over iPhone or Windows Mobile.

Basically, I admire both Mr. Bill Gates and Mr. Steve Jovs; because, we cant think today's computer without them.
The fight will remain and getting closer, just like Nikon and Canon.
The fight will be more closer if Apple launches a Macbook at lesser price than today.
From consumer point of view, as the fight becomes closer, it would be better for us.

I disagree. Apple are so friggin proprietary and so totalitarian that I still don't get why people spend a butt load of money on a system that can only do a few specific things.

Trust me. I can build a laptop or desktop for the same price using Windows that will do everything as good or better than the mac equiv. Everything, as good or better.

edit: some of the main problems with Windows is,,, there is such a wide range of parts out there that they have to cater to. Choice of Hardware is the single most difficult thing with Windows. But it can be done, and be extremely solid. Apple doesn't give you any, or extremely little choice. For the prices they charge, for the "Intel Brand" hardware they sell, it better be a friggin solid system.

Just know, that solidness can also be achieved with Windows 7, Vista and yes, XP.
Hardware does make a difference.

I agree with both of you if that is possible.

Nokian, If Mac's were cheaper around the same range as PC's, more people would be buying them. Mac would have a growing base and could strive.

and yes, Tepid, you are correct as well. For me, even if Mac's cost the same as the PC equivelent, I still wouldn't buy it myself. But you and I are not the general pubilc. Most computer users are not computer builders, are not computer programmers or IT workers. Most are people in other sectors who need a home PC. Macs fit in as a Home PC. in fact. They are PCs. You and I, We know computers. you build computers. I have built a computer and repaired countless computers.

On your last comment in edit, This is the reason why Apple can sport such high consumer ratings. General public just wants a computer thats fits their needs. Cutting your options to a, b, or c allows Apple to have great support for 3 items. Windows has not jus a, b, and c. It instead covers everything from all of Apples abc's to everyone elses x7rgke2, 5thiem2n, 5tyx, D7v, M64e, etc. So support for this array of choices means figuring out everything in the system to get down to root cause.

For General Public, I suggest company OEM computers as they set up every one of them the same and as such offer good support. For IT and computer geeks, building your own is best. I cant recommend a mother of 3 to build a PC....I just cant.

Apple is one of these OEMs. But, generally, people cant justify spending up to 500 dollars more for a laptop. They just cant. There are a few that do and this is why Apple has a base, albeit small

This isn't a fair comparison at all. Windows doesn't sell computers, think pads or phones. The only fair comparison would be if you compared the actual sale of one Op system to the other. In this case apple isn't even in the same class. Now if you want another unfair comparison try comparing the sale of all machines equipped with Windows 7 to how many macs are sold.

Hardware does make a difference.

I believe one can build a system better than Mac. I believe that it is HP/Compaq made my laptop (Basically it was for Vista x64) in the way, that the Graphics need, RAM needed at the certain moment by a 7-8 ~50 MB files each opened at a time in PS cant be met. Its not Win 7 that makes PS to behave like a mad.
My Nokia N73 ME is far better to me than my iPOD...I use Mac only for PS and thats too for Hardware stability...Apple practically sells a computer like home appliances- like televisions, refrigerators, Air conditioners...you can just click the remote to define it to sleep 30 mins later, but you cant do anything beyond that.
Yes, Win 7 is definitely far better than its predecessors...and I use the Macbook for editing photographs in a "machine"...
iPAD? huh...but the "huh" is for us...general people is liking it (I dont know what they want to do with it)...

Nokian, If Mac's were cheaper around the same range as PC's, more people would be buying them. Mac would have a growing base and could strive.

Right. Practically, I am too inclined for Windows (thats why I have a small website for Win 7, not Apple Mac. Infact, I am not a member of any Mac Forum.

Just imagine how many units of Samsung Corby sells today. What they do have? Nothing for us! Practically a Java based series of mobile having touch screen and a nice looking or "pro looking" (not pro!) QWERTY keyboard...they focus on "one touch" connectivity to social sites...thats it. But, people are buying it ... Not the we, who downloaded several builds of Win 7 Beta to just see what it is.
General People will like "easy things", whats there friends are buying etc, we cant deny that.

This isn't a fair comparison at all. Windows doesn't sell computers, think pads or phones. The only fair comparison would be if you compared the actual sale of one Op system to the other. Right. We cant compare...because, Apple is a Hardware company who installs an OS to their computers and Microsoft is a Software company who gives permission to some hardware companies to install MS Windows OEM and also sells in retail. Obviously, the hardware list is big, and everyday its getting bigger...

Microsoft will never lose its market. Just count the illegal pirated Windows OS distributing communities, forums, torrents...today who is installing a pirated OS, tomorrow he will buy a Genuine OS. I dont support piracy, but its just the fact.

This makes no sense. They compete for the same users and have since Day 1. Doesn't matter what the users use. Laptops and desktops are not the future - it's mobile, and Apple and Google are leaving MS in the dust.

I don't know about that. We will need to wait and see.
The only thing that could change that and make it true is full on development of either Memristor's or something similar.

What is Memristor?

In April 2010, HP labs announced that they had practical memristors working at 1ns switching times and 3 nm by 3 nm sizes, with electron/hole mobility of 1m/s[25] , which bodes well for the future of the technology.[26] At these densities it could easily rival the current sub-25 nm flash memory technology.
And if you go look around and do more research on this,, it very well could be possible to become a real life Johnny Mnemonic and Here. Well, in theory.

Williams and his team say they can now take a different approach: "Instead of writing a computer program to simulate a brain or simulate some brain function, we’re actually looking to build some hardware based upon memristors that emulates brain-like functions," says Williams.

If HP actually pulls this off? Do any of you have any idea of the implications this has on the future of technology? At that point, if HP decides not to share, Google and Apple can go smoke each others junk for all anyone cares. HP will end up owning them both.

Now, combine what HP is trying to do with the actually true mind reading research that is being proven successful? Oh man, I am really not sure I want to live in the future I am seeing. Along with RFID's, and GPS? Number of the beast, anyone? Ok, yeah I am pushing this a bit. But think about it, really.

No waiting necessary. Apple is selling more iPads (200,000 per week) than Macs (110,000 per week). Next year it is expected half of Apple's entire business will be mobile devices. MS is losing serious ground to Apple and Android. Yes, memristors are very cool, but if and when they are viable, mobile device use will explode. PCs aren't dead but they are yesterday's platform.
