I just put my ASUS UL80VT notebook (Windows 7 64 bit) into hibernation for the first time but when I tried to bring it out I got an error message saying that there was a problem with the hibernation file and it was unable to recover properly. It did load eventually but when it did I found that my screen resolution had been set to 800x600 and limited to 1024x768 - checking the hardware status it says that there is a problem with the display adapters (Device Status: This device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device. (Code 31)). USB 2.0 has also been affected and the options for 'Sleep' and 'Hibernation' have been grayed out from the shut down menu. It might just be my imagination but, to cap things off, I think the system in general is running slower than it used to.

I tried downloading and re-installing the VGA drivers from the ASUS support site but it has absolutely no effect.

Not really sure what else to do at this point, any suggestions would be appreciated.

It isnt the "VGA" drivers you need. You need the full driver for your notebook and version of windows (64bit or 32)

Hi Ken,

Sorry, I wasn't clear - the driver is categorized under 'VGA' on their support site but the actual description lists it as 'nVidia Graphics Driver for Win 7 64 bit'. Is that what you were referring to or do I need to go find something else?

Thanks, I just tried doing that but got the message "The manufacturer of this system requires that you download the driver for your GPU from their support site." I got a similar message when I tried to download the Express Chipset Family driver package from Intel as well. I've put in a support request to ASUS too so I guess I'll wait and see if they have anything useful to say and then go for the system restore if not.....unless anyone else can think of an alternate solution in the meantime.

I've got the exact same problem.

The only difference is that my laptop is a ul30vt, that has 2 graphic cards, and I don't have sound as well.

I recovered the system from the recovery partition but the problem still persists!

Have you found a solution?

In the end, I updated the bios from the ASUS site and that (so far) has fixed all of the problems.

I have had the same problem with my UL80VT. I solved the problem by updating the bios. None of the other solutions, inc re-installation of windows, worked
