You need to tell us a bit more about what you use your computer for? Your needs will really dictate video card recommendations, RAM, etc.

Plus, are you certain of overclocking? Because without that, you often have no need for watercooling.

Without a budget for the build:

Using the build for things like video encoding and heavier photoshop work & light to moderate gaming...

--> Amount of RAM and CPU speed are going to be the things youll want to focus on here first and foremost IMO.
With graphics being a 3rd on the priority list (depending on budget).

Of course with a i7 build, 6GB of tripple channel should be enough. Video encoding will also benefit from higher RAM bandwidth (Games not so much) .. so perhaps looking toward 6GB of DDR3 1600 or something along that woud be a good idea.
Depends how much encoding you plan to be doing really.

If this is your first attempt at overclocking you don't get a $300.00 motherboard. You'll only give yourself migraines trying to get the board stable given all the options you're completely unfamiliar with. There are many boards which are very overclocking friendly which cost 1/2 the price.

Having said that, to answer your question: yes and no... but mostly no. Yes, in many games OC'ing the core will give you better fps, but there are caveats. Given that you're going to be using a 1366 i7, you're bottleneck will be the GTX 470 in many cases, so overclocking becomes pointless, as no matter how much faster you make the cpu, the gpu will be dancing as fast as it can already.

Please don't take my comments to mean you will not have great game performance; on the contrary, the rig will no doubt spank much you-know-what, big time. :)

yes this is my 1st overclock and my 1st system build that im actually paying a lot of money for so i want to know everything lol

but back to my original question - is my hardware ok or could you guys recommend anything?

After a quick conversion... I realise you are working with over $4400 AUD...

If you're going to be gaming converting files and DVD burning then you're gonna need reasonably good hardware... and with that kinda budget you can get some high performance kit. Personally I wouldn't go for the Rampage III (or the water cooling kit, for that matter...), simply because it's and enthusiast board designed for those who spend more time in BIOS, tweaking clock speeds and voltages than they spend looking at their windows desktop... and because I'd be saving myself a bit of cash to spend on a beefier GPU, or, moar RAM! :p

Imho, and I'm sure most would agree, you're about to spend too much money. $4,000.00 for a computer is just... well... insane. Don't get the most expensive cpu, get a lesser priced one and overclock it so it will perform identically (sometimes better) that the high cost one.

I don't see any hardware that you've picked aside from the gpu (which is good) the case (which you've got an alternative) and the motherboard (which you should not get).

What about RAM? You should really look into getting an SSD instead of relying on your old HDDs; use them for storage. Power supply? dvd and blu-ray drives?

Take a look at my system specs. THat is what I came up with for the best computer for just under stupidly insane prices.

However there is room for cost savings in most places. The nvidia 470 instead of the 480 is a huge one. Getting an i7 940 instead of the 960 is another place to save. Don't skimp on the SSD though. Don't buy a cheap MB either.

Total cost was about $2800 (minus the monitors and the M-Audio equipment).

[Edit] Oh and ZERO install or setup problems, not one blue screen, rock solid performance for about a month now. [/edit]

Click on my "System Specs" button at the bottom of this post for detailed info.

I'd also like to recommend not cheaping out on the memory either. Memory is a tweaky thing that seems to cause a lot of issues. The memory I picked got good ratings and was speciifically vetted for the motherboard and has worked flawlessly. (Though I have not tried any OCing yet, system is spectacularly fast as it is) :)

That's the one.

I supposed you can save another 400 on not getting an SSD...

BUT, having a good machine at work with no SSD and one at home with SSD. The difference is just night and day with responsiveness and boot time. Games load insanely faster as well. If it can fit in your budget, the performance is just crazy :)

In fact I'd recommend an SSD as the single best upgrade for even an older machine you can make now (Assuming an ok video already). But for a brand new maching... the CPU could be a million GHz but you are still hobbled by the slow traditional HD when i comes to loading apps, files, textures etc.
