Hello, I'm new here. If this is posted in the wrong section, I apologize.

Today when i booted my computer, it said "windows has detected a decrease in memory" I turned off my computer, unplugged it, took out all 3 sticks of ram, put them back in...

Still, windows is only detecting 2gb of ram when I really have 3gb of ram.
Performance Index for ram went down from 5.9 to 5.5

Can someone tell me what to do so that windows recognized all 3gb of ram.

here's a a couple screen shots:

It is giving this behavior, because likely, one of your memory sticks, or one of your memory slots has died. Swap them around to find out which it is, and then you can go about replacing that part. Hopefully, it will be one of the sticks, as that would be much simpler than replacing the mobo.

how many sticks of ram? one could have gone bad which can happen. to test this try booting with each stick. if one fails post (boot up test), then its bad. :)

you can also check the bios to see how much ram it sees. if it also sees 2gb, then im right. no sticks are bad, then reseat all the ram sticks.

Welcome to Windows 7 Support.
I see that Deacon and Merkat have already given you good suggestions, I'll throw in with my 2 cents and add that since you have a custom rig check out your bios settings. We don't know whats changed in your case did you you just complete the install to Windows 7 or did you have updates and so on.

Yep, I'd still want to run Memtest just to make sure the memory tested out okay, but it does sound like one of the sticks just wasn't seated properly.
