You just have to wait for the ip lease to time out. Do you mean the dhcp address your computer has, or the one that the ISP assigned to your router?

I'm talking about the one say if you go the the site (myIP) and it showes your IP in the center of the page, not the one the router assigns. Sry don't know all the terms (pc).
How do I know when it times out?

That is the dhcp lease from your internet service provider. The usual timeout is 2 weeks, but unless they run out of addresses your modem will pull the same address over and over. The only way to absolutely get a new address is to get a different modem. Sometimes changing the device plugged into the modem (router in your case) will get you a new ip assigned. If you call the tech support line they *might* reset the lease for you, but their isn't anything you can tell them that will force them to. It will depend on the support tech that you get on the phone. Why do you want to change your public IP anyways?

How to change (Dynamic) IP address in Windows 7 or Vista?

The Quicker method:
-in the icon tray in the bottom right of the screen, click on the icon that represents your internet connection
-Then click "Open Network and Sharing Center"
-On the left hand menu, click "Change adapter settings"
-right click on your wireless connection and click "Properties"
-Highlight "Internet Protocol Version 4" and click "Properties"
-To set ip address dynamically, click "Obtain an ip address automatically" and "Obtain DNS server address automatically"

Alternative:
-go to start->control panel
-in the search bar, it should say: "Control Panel -> All Control Panel Items"
-click on "Control Panel"
-This should take you to a screen with headings like System and Security, Network and Internet, Hardware and Sound, etc
-Under Network and Internet, click "View network status and tasks"
-On the left hand menu, click "Change adapter settings"
-right click on your wireless connection and click "Properties"
-Highlight "Internet Protocol Version 4" and click "Properties"
-To set ip address dynamically, click "Obtain an ip address automatically" and "Obtain DNS server address automatically"

For me at least, resetting the router gets me a new public IP. As ccatlett said though why do you want to? Unless you have an IP ban from a site of course....

Adrian, the steps you list in your above post will not help the OP, he needs to change the public facing ip of his router, not of his computer.

I understood his original post.
There has been some excellent advice on changing the DHCP using the routers config. My assumption was that the OP is trying to change what his Ip assigns his address within the cable modem.

I posted this before in another thread a few months back and will repeat it here since it's applicable.

Ok, quick lesson on DHCP for you.

When you first turn on your computer, it broadcasts for a DHCP address. When the DHCP server gets the request, it only sees the MAC address (Physical Address) and records the MAC address and assigns a DHCP address to it.

That DHCP address is given for a certain lease time. Let's say it's 4 days. So, 5 hours later, you reboot the computer, it broadcasts again for an address and the server notices that it gave the address of 192.168.1.64 previously to this MAC address. Since it hasn't given that address out to anybody else yet, it simply reassigns it back to the client.

At the 50% lease mark (2 days in my example), the computer will automatically try to renew that lease. If successfull, the computer will renew it again for 4 more days.

So, lets say that you turn off your computer for 5 days. Well, in the course of 5 days, the lease on your computer would expire. However, if the DHCP server doesn't give that address to another machine...then your machine will get that same address again for another 4 days.

So, the best way to get a new address is to get a different MAC address. And the best way to do that is to install a new network card into your computer.
In your particular case, it's the MAC address of the router which would need to change and you cannot simply just install another network card into the router. You might be able to spoof the MAC address to something else...but depending upon your ISP..this may or may not work.

Thanks all for your help. The reason I want to try and change my IP was that we had an ventrilo server and had some trouble with this guy and ban him, but within moments returned and had a new IP. We ban him again and the same thing over and over. The only way to keep him out was to password the channel. So after reading this, he must of had some device that could switch his IP without trouble.

On an other note pparks1 that would explain why my iP change when I installed my new 610.

Thank you all again!
