We need more info than that please.

What are you upgrading from, XP or vista.

Upgrade to Win 7 from Vista

Clean Upgrade Install

You can either get an upgrade version

Or a full version

Make your choice from Premium, Professional or Ultimate.

How much ram have you got?

More than 3.5 GB then go x64 bit Win 7 Professional 64 bit

If you have less, say 3 GB or less then go for the Windows 7 Premium

As for BIOS - DON'T!!!

Only update a BIOS if you are having problems with the current version.

And also because it can completely render your laptop useless if it goes wrong.

And at that, get someone with a bit more experience to do it for you.

Hope this helps

Welcome to sevenforums , Here is a good how to for bios. Windows 7 should be set to automaticly update.
And as was said by luckystar why update the bios unless you are having problems with something?
Good luck to you. :D
How to Update Your Computer's BIOS - wikiHow

Doh!! I got that completly wrong, I thought he said Upgrade not update.

Sorry ramin7, let me rephrase - Go to Start - Control Panel - Windows Update (Try changing the view to large icons) - then on the left should be an option to set up updates and then choose either of the options. (Best to choose Automatic, unless you know what updates you require and don't need then choose check but manual downlaod and install)

From then on, if there updates waiting, go to the notifications window by the clock on the taskbar and look for the update icon as some updates wont automatically install and you will need to choose them by putting a check mark in the box and then click Ok down below.

Now, that should be the right answer. Very sorry for reading you OP wrong.

He probably means Upgrade. "Update" is used in place of "Upgrade" here so often you can only tell by the context and I interpreted it as Upgrade.

If so, start with Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor.

Updating your BIOS from Windows is a lot less risky, and if you are changing to Win7 then I would personally want the latest BIOS version. Read carefully for how to either back up your BIOS or reflash it from USB stick or CD if running it from Windows fails - which is almost never except with a power failure.

What do you want to do with Win7?

You said Update which usually means running Windows Update.

Normally Upgrade means to another version of/or operating system.

Do you have Vista and want to Upgrade to Win7?

Or do you mean Upgrade to another version of Win7.
