Virtual window is minimized to the notification area

Here's one that's got me banging my head in frustration:

Our company runs its phones on a standard corporate IP phone system. We have a piece of software that runs on each computer to allow that person to look up extensions, place calls, manage their voice mail and so on. Unfortunately this piece of software only runs on Windows XP, not Windows 7.

I was able to bypass the OS problem by running it in XP Mode on a computer and everything was going fine until someone tried to dock the bar. In XP you can move the bar to one edge of the screen and it'll dock itself there. In Windows 7 it appears that trying to dock the window minimized it to the notification area and now it wont open up again.

My question is, how do I get it back out of the notification area? The icon for the software is there and I can right-click on it to gain an action menu but there's no way to bring the window back up to access the voice mail buttons, type in names to call or the like.

Anyone know how I can pull a piece of software running in XP Mode out of the notification area?

Thanks

Try Alt+Tab

ALT+Tab doesnt work. The software doesnt show up on the task bar, only in the notification bar. Because of this there isnt anything to ATL+Tab to.

Which program is it? When you right click on it, there isn't a "restore" or "show"? If not, close it (either by right click > close) or go into your task manager (if it doesnt show up on the main tab, go to processes) and re-open it.

The software is the ShoreTel Personal Call Manager 7.5 software. It's running in windowed XP Mode and right clicking on the icon in the Notification Area does not have a "Restore" or "Show" option.

Closing the software by the menu only closes the icon in the Notification Area. Restarting the software starts it back up in the Notification Area.

Because it's running in XP Mode, the program itself doesn't show up in the Windows 7 Task manager in either the Applications or Processes tab. Closing it by any means and restarting it results in the program starting in the Notification Area again.

Hmm.. We use Shortel 9.2, and I am running Windows 7.

Ask your sys admin if you have an available license for a newer version.

You might be able to look in the registry for the keys used for the program and find its windowstate key?
Do you have another environment that you can compare the registry keys for the program?

you could possibly export the specific registry key that is different and import it into the problem OS.

Note: always backup registry before making any changes! just sayin
