Thunderbird

the threads about what you don't like about win 7, not other software to add on to it to make it work, like i said in another post.

i've tried TB, didn't like it much, OE/WM was nice and simple, was thinking about upgrading my mums PC to win 7, she's 71 and trying to get her to work another email program would probably be too much for her  even when i think it's just a bit too busy/complicated to use

I used to think OE was far better than Outlook and find TB to be very similar, which is why I suggested it, but apparently you knew about it. Good luck finding anything simple (for anything) these days!

The only problems I ever have are with the task bar. I find that programs get stuck in the task bar sometimes and will not maximize. This is easy to work around but quite frustrating for an otherwise perfect OS (although when you say "good morning computer" it doesn' answer).

Only bad thing i can say is it really is not all that different to prev versions of windows .i want new stuff ,,.
Read on McDuff .... Plenty of new "Stuff" in this package, as well as fixes for things that weren't quite right with the older OS. Explore! Push the bounderies! enjoy; But above all, remember.. It's only an Operating System to run programs, to do the things you realy want to do.

Any FOLDER window should (and used to) remember it's size and position when last closed. Windows 7 does not provide this simple and essential feature, big step backwards. Better explained with one solution here:
ShellFolderFix Remembers Window Locations in Windows 7 - How-To Geek
I agree. A lot of great things were stripped out of XP. Some things simply should have stayed. TRAGIC losses. I also agree these losses were a step backwards weather others disagree or not. If it was in the OS, and stripped out for one reason or another, it aught to be brought back if people ask. I have petitioned MS through the feedback link, and beat my head against this wall many times. Sadly, It looks like we will be ignored, and the deleted things will not return. The only thing I can say, is add your voice.

I hear the same things in the field, but the majority don't realy know what to do. MS is deaf to that huge market segment. Apathy though; I believe, is our greatest obsticle. Anyone who realy wanted to take the time to realy research could complain. It's not easy, despite what others say. Apathy, and the fact that the "Complaint Department" is not as widly publicized as the OS. It's very hard to find for the "Avarage Joe".

I also agree that third party software is not the answer.

Another anoyance: When I resort a folder using the same sort criteria, the ascending/decending order is automaticaly changed, no matter what I have checked. I like telling windows when to re-sort to put the files back in order. I frequently put files/folders at the bottom of a window to make it easier to work, then resort to put them in order. If I wanted the ascending/decending order to change, I would change the sort order myself.

This has been touched on before, but does anyone know if MS plans to add more blank space to the edges of the windows and between the rows to drop files into, and right click on. This has quickly become a major frustration for me. It's easy to loose files/folders into unintended folders. It's also easy to uninintentionaly right click on a file in stead of a blank spot. These things slow me down quite a bit; productivity suffers.

I didn't read em all so this may be a rehash. Win Explorer jumps up and down as you expand folders causing you to continually scroll the left pane. There is no excuse for that. I use a third party file manager to avoid it. That is a blemish on an otherwise marvelous product.

Heh I'll second that one, that is a major annoyance. The left pane scrollling as it is is just useless. As it is it actually HIDES the very thing you want to see. It really should just do nothing at all. Let the user scroll if necessary.

I'm new to W7 and I absolutely love some of the new features but the "What don't you like about Windows 7?" list seems to get longer everyday.

Hammerhead's "third party file manager" says it all really. With all the free (not even paid for) file managers that offer a million more features than Explorer isn't it about time Microsoft started implementing these features themselves? If someone else is doing it better - catch up. Geez that's not rocket science. And what these other file managers are doing isn't rocket science either - it's not like it's terribly hard stuff that Microsoft is unable to do.

Batch file/folder renaming is one of the biggest peeves I have with Windows and always have. It's one of the few instances when I use another "third party file manager" and it bugs the heck out of me that I have to.

Not being able to decide for myself, me, the user, what I want to have on my Explorer toolbar is another one. Why would I want to have Burn available for every file I click instead of a Delete button? Yes you can add it to the toolbar with a registry tweak but if it can be done in the registry it should be offered in the GUI so people don't have to go there.

And that's probably the thing that peeves me the most - there should be much more user customisation available across the board. And the customisations that can be done should be easier to get to. If there are so many things that can be changed via the registry or other 'hacks' then why not put them in a GUI? If the features are accessible but 'hidden' what's the point of that?????? Adding new features is great but taking old ones out should be done as little as possible and let people have the choice. And 'hiding' them is just dumb. One of the biggest gripes I've seen posted on the net is the lack of a Classic Start Menu option. Apparently Microsoft's answer to people wanting one is "the Classic Start Menu is outdated - move on". Fine attitude that. Microsoft make too many decisions about how I use my computer.

Well it seems that once you get going, the list could become endless. I think I'll stop now.

okay this is ridiculous, the first page is filled with nothing about the actual OS. i think some fillers should be removed, and there's 182 pages of text in which probably half is nothing...

well, i have some things to complain about 7.

1) the feature for a folder toolbar is gone. the one that allows you to drag and drop a folder to the edge of the screen and a new toolbar appears. that saved me a lot of time, any folder i opened constantly could be there along with any shortcuts, it becomes something like the mac toolbar. 7 has this "pin" here crap that's just a glorified version of quicklaunch. and even then it's retarded, it takes up a fingers-worth of space and there's a limit to the amount of shortcuts you can have on it. some people find it annoying when they accidentally drag a folder to the side and let go, well, for one, get some skills, and two, if there are options in turning things on and off/active or inactive, then why can't it apply here, i mean the screens sides aren't doing anything...

2) this power plan option display is fixed to displaying only two plans. what's their problem? is three too much? i swear, either there are way too many laymens being surveyed or they never surveyed computer usage and just threw 7 out there...

3) the safely remove section. what's the deal with newly plugged in devices being randomly placed in the middle of everything when in the previous versions of windows it's the first one (on top). is this microsofts way of playing with us?

4) even though it's not a lot of space, and it's a good idea, why couldn't they just leave the "peek" feature to the corners like every successful program that's done this. ...bottom corner-peek | bottom corner click-show desktop ....top corner-peek windows | top corner click-select specific windows

i recently used aim mail and pressed cntrl+shft+tab and this crazy subwindow showed up. (i type crazy because i had like 70 tabs open..lol) and it revealed all my tabs/webpages. this was interesting but i only know how to get to it by being on aim mails page.

5) after so many version, you'd think the term PC would be closer to it's true meaning. a computer that can be fully personalized.... now, i'm a realestate whore and even though i try to keep it limited by organizing files and folders my desktop get's cluttered all the time. i'm one of those people that likes to save everything to the desktop first and then organize it later, that way i can see what it is, like what picture it is, without having a folder opened. so, why is it that when it comes to the dt (desktop) i have to use some fixed size crap?... why can't i make the icons smaller, the text smaller, and the most important part really, the spacing between each icon tighter?....

i tell yall, windows is trying way too hard to be like apple, and they're failing successfully.(just like M K shame-a-lots new movie, the last airbender, boy was that sad. so bad, it's funny)... they're not apple, and if they ever chose to be, then they're just going to lose customers because we'll just get a damn mac.
they try to make things simple, but along the lines, they lose everything. so now it's not only simple, it's retarded. if they want to simplify things they must stick to what a PC is all about, they must give the options of tweak.

and another thing, this site is great, but when it comes to simplifying and making it easier for people, products should not result in a forum that teaches people how to do things. the teachings, the definitions, the directions....they should all be within the OS.

...well...there's my three cents...if someone would like to prove me wrong...you are welcome to.

oh another thing. the stubborn side panel of the windows...why must i chose from only two options...i really don't want this new "library" thing there...and i certainly don't want to open my pin-up of "my computer" only to find the damn library again...i don't use that thing...why are they trying to annoy the hell out of me......

one of the things about windows seven is the fact that i have to go through more steps now to get somewhere...vista?xp?....i have a shortcut, it takes me to where the shortcut is supposed to take me. i have main toolbar at the bottom (with shortcuts)...i have a tb on the left side (auto-hide and with SCs)... i have a tb at the top (ALSO with SCs)....i use many programs, and to dig through things to find them or type it up everytime to find it really is a hassle.

gah....just thinking about it makes me want to punch the people in charge of these decisions....

I used to think OE was far better than Outlook and find TB to be very similar, which is why I suggested it, but apparently you knew about it. Good luck finding anything simple (for anything) these days!

i agree with you, i've outlook installed on this PC, but i've reverted back to the hacked windows mail

Well I've trawled through all these so-called problems and I can't seem to be able to find any, I can only assume the problem is not with the actual Win 7 but with peoples ability to set up their systems correctly, are you sure all your system are up to date (set to Automatic update) all drivers are up to date, and I mean really check not just think they are.

Remember the computer users main guiding line GIGA.

At all times the PC is only following your instrutions. if you make any error (even a slight one) in setting it up correctly, how do you expect it to come up with the correct interpretation of your requests.

So why did you bother installing 7, if you'd taken the trouble to study the system you would have known all the things you complain about,
Really learn the system before you complain.

for one, 7 eliminates many useless things that hog up system resources. two, vista is of the past, and any new program i get is mostly suited for 7. worthless things become obsolete, i cannot dwindle in the past. three, just because i complain about certain things doesn't mean it's all bad. four, this forum is about what i don't like about windows 7. not, if you found so many things you don't like about it, why do you have it. five, if you can inform me why we are using w7 or wV or have stopped using w93, w95, w98, w2000, and wM then perhaps my usage of 7 along with my dislikes of it isn't invalid.

P.S. you're an idiot for thinking someone cannot complain about things they've learned. it is precisely the fact that they've learned it that warrants their right to complain. there is a quote that follows this: "do not complain about things you don't know".
