Building new machine, does not turn on. What I've hooked up:

CPU - AMD Phenom II X6 1055T
Mobo - Asus M4A89GTD Pro/USB3
RAM - two sticks of OCZ 2GB DDR3
PSU - Corsair CMPSU-400
HDD - Seagate 300GB
HDD - WD Caviar Green 500GB
Front panel connectors (mobo speaker, power light, HDD light, etc.)
USB connector
ATX 24-pin plugged in
ATX 8-pin plugged in
CPU fan plugged in
VGA Switch Card plugged in

All I get is a green light on the mobo. Pushing the power button on the case does nothing. No BIOS beep codes, no fan, no nothin. Just the green light. Any suggestions?

Looking at reviews on newegg this seems like a common problem (more than 10%) with the mobo. One person wrote this:
"While on the phone I asked the lady, “what is the return ratio on this product?” I didn’t think she’d tell me, but to my surprise she put me on hold, came back a couple of minutes later and said that “the last 9 out of 10 shipped were returned”! A bad batch obviously, so for a replacement I ordered a different model. So, thank you Newegg for your honesty, and for taking some of the pain out of returning defective stuff."

Looks like the mobo is bad. Which is kinda sad since it sounds like one hell of a PC. I recommend doing what the other person did. Return the board and get a different one. Good luck, Colonel.

A bent CPU pin, or unseated CPU could cause this. Downloading manual now to see what it might offer.

OK, solved. Fumz wins a big fat prize. Whatever the hell comes after "octuple." Checked connections for the 9th time and it worked.
:)

PSU came with a connector for the panel connectors. I ditched that and plugged them into the board directly and everything seems to be A-OK.

Greatly appreciate the fast response from you all.

OK, not much help in the manual, basically says check the jumper setting and connectors. Since you are getting no beeps, it isn't posting. No fans running isn't a good sign. You could try removing the Ram. The PC wouldn't boot, but if the fan starts and you get a red led, you could try 1 Ram stick at a time. Looking like you might have a bad MB, a call to Asus support may be in order. You might have to RMA it if the poster above is correct about common failure rate. Sorry buddy. A Guy

Ugh - OK, now it ain't working again. It updated drivers and asked me to restart, which I did. Then it updated a couple more drivers and asked for another restart, which I clicked. Machine turned off - never came back. Only thing it does now is the mobo blinks a red LED, which indicates a DRAM problem, according to my mobo guide. You can hit a little button on the board called "Mem OK", which I think is supposed to automatically match up the RAM voltage if there are problems. You're supposed to press and hold for a few seconds. I do that and the red light flashes faster for about 30 seconds or so, then it just stays on. No blinking.

I've tried one stick of RAM in all four slots. Monitor is black every time, sometimes the red light flashes intermittently, sometimes it just stays on all the time. Tried the other stick by itself, same thing.

If I turn the PC on with no RAM, the mobo speaker beeps the code for no RAM present. If I stick RAM in there (again, I've tried all four slots with both sticks, one at a time) there are no beeps. Just the red light.

Only thing hooked up when I do this are the CPU, its fan, the PSU, the case fan, the monitor, the keyboard, one HDD, one stick of RAM.

Cannot find any loose connections. I've unhooked and hooked them several times. 24-pin ATX plugged in, 8-pin ATX plugged in, CPU fan plugged in, front panel wires plugged in.

Reset the CMOS via jumpers, didn't work. Took out the battery, didn't work. Tried a different PSU, didn't work. Cannot get into the BIOS at all. Mobo book says press the Delete key when booting but that doesn't work. Just a black screen. All the fans are working, and I can hear the HDD start to fire up but then nothing happens.

Man oh man.

Can you get it to run with 1 stick of RAM furthest from the cpu? If you can, update the bios with the AsusUpdate (it's on the cd).

If you can't, then take everything out of the box and set it up on a table. It's easier to sort through problems that way.

seems like i would just take the board back and try another one seems there might be something faulty going on cause that doesnt sound normal and my experience mobo ussually have mostly everything ready unless your doing more then the board has to offer on default

i would scrap the board via returning it and try another could be possible you blew a compasitor i dunno but it just doesn't sound right

@colonel travis i was looking at your psu are you still using a 400watt psu ? f you are then there is your problem my friend you need to get atleast 550 to 600 watt if your using a 400 watt no wonder it's not firing up there is not enough power to support anything like i said before my old 450 wasnt enough to power my board when i first got it

I was going through everything like you it would act like it wanted to work but failed ultimatly it was a weak psu that was the issue i think you need to look into more power and look at the recommended power for your board it might be the one thing you over looked

Solarstarshines - yeah, I need to dump the 400W for a larger one for my whole system. But shouldn't that be enough for the CPU, 1 RAM stick and 1 HDD? I bought all this stuff at a local store, so taking anything back won't be a total hassle.

I would have to agree with Solarstarshines after what I read so far, a 400 watt PSU just isn't enough my friend, even for what you have now, or what you may add on in the future.
I have been reading up on your mobo and when I can give you a definite answer, I'll post back soon....brb :)

I'm going to state the high failure rates with your board again. Even looking at five star reviews only, I see a few that say that their first board failed and had to get a second one. I really think it is the motherboard in this case. 400watt is pretty low though. Look ever the minimum requirements of your various parts to make sure none of them say you need more than that.
