What don't you like about Windows 7?

oh another thing. the stubborn side panel of the windows...why must i chose from only two options...i really don't want this new "library" thing there...and i certainly don't want to open my pin-up of "my computer" only to find the damn library again...i don't use that thing...why are they trying to annoy the hell out of me......
If you took the time to give the libraries a chance, you might just like it. I was skeptical at first, but I definitely appreciate them now.;)

for one, 7 eliminates many useless things that hog up system resources. two, vista is of the past, and any new program i get is mostly suited for 7. worthless things become obsolete, i cannot dwindle in the past. three, just because i complain about certain things doesn't mean it's all bad. four, this forum is about what i don't like about windows 7. not, if you found so many things you don't like about it, why do you have it. five, if you can inform me why we are using w7 or wV or have stopped using w93, w95, w98, w2000, and wM then perhaps my usage of 7 along with my dislikes of it isn't invalid.

P.S. you're an idiot for thinking someone cannot complain about things they've learned. it is precisely the fact that they've learned it that warrants their right to complain. there is a quote that follows this: "do not complain about things you don't know".
Please, Please calm down and take a bit of time to look a little more closely at Windows 7 then after careful consideration if you still don't like it then uninstall it and put Windows 95 or 98 back on.
Sure Windows 7 is very different from the previous OS's by MS but really like anything new if you are either not prepared or not capable of accepting new ideas then we cannot help you with that!
Finally I don't know who you were accusing of being an "idiot" but that sort of language is not acceptable in this most civilised of Forums. We all try to show due respect for one another and expect nay demand that all new comers are made welcome on that understanding.
So draw a line and politely ask for help and I'm sure it will be given in good faith as it always is here!
Rant over:zip:

...noobvious: i don't do the whole put your files where windows "suggests" you put them, i prefer everything on the desktop, that way, when i have to move from computer to computer or reinstall the system, all my things are not only in one place but i can easily see them without having to go through one extra step to find it.

...mitchell65: with all due respect, this section is solely for stating the dislikes of 7 which means no one can deny the basic principle of this section. also, to state "Really learn the system before you complain." is an insult and a display of incompetence. every logical being knows that no such being has the right to complain about something they don't know.

to the both of you: this is just me, but i've used 7 long enough to learn enough about to know most of what i'm referring to. if something doesn't go efficiently enough with my computer i will find ways to make it faster, now, so far i have yet to find a solution for all of my previous statements. i am one of high adaptability, this means i can keep up, and if the first party cannot supply me with beneficial means, then i will search for third party programs that will.

mitchell65: when i ask for help, i will be calm. but when i feel someone is looking for a battle, calm will be the last thing on my mind. and don't you ever tell someone to revert back incapable systems. i'm an industrial designer, and i do not wish even the dumbest of those to use primitive equipment.

...but thank you for your concern.

Here type9, check this out: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/35627-libraries-folder-add-remove-navigation-pane.html

That tut is a little tricky, but it can remove the libraries. You also will need to look at the remove from pinned Windows Explorer to keep it from defaulting to Libraries location when opened.

I personally like the libraries for organizing all the folders of specific types and you can easily remove a folder from the library or add folders to the library. But, If you don't like it, then there is a way to remove.

Ok so I found some more stuff for you so I will chop up your quote so I can post solutions.

1) the feature for a folder toolbar is gone. the one that allows you to drag and drop a folder to the edge of the screen and a new toolbar appears. that saved me a lot of time, any folder i opened constantly could be there along with any shortcuts, it becomes something like the mac toolbar. 7 has this "pin" here crap that's just a glorified version of quicklaunch. and even then it's retarded, it takes up a fingers-worth of space and there's a limit to the amount of shortcuts you can have on it. some people find it annoying when they accidentally drag a folder to the side and let go, well, for one, get some skills, and two, if there are options in turning things on and off/active or inactive, then why can't it apply here, i mean the screens sides aren't doing anything...

http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/888-quick-launch-enable-disable.html

You might be able to restore quick launch and do without the "pinning" . And yes I agree this should be an option somewhere instead of a complicated fix

2) this power plan option display is fixed to displaying only two plans. what's their problem? is three too much? i swear, either there are way too many laymens being surveyed or they never surveyed computer usage and just threw 7 out there...
http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/21990-power-plan-create-shortcut-change-power-plan.html

Again I agree. I don't know why they choose 2 power plans. You could create a shortcut to each plan and save them in a folder. Run each one to change the power plan and maybe create shortcut keys like Crtl+Alt+1, 2, etc.

3) the safely remove section. what's the deal with newly plugged in devices being randomly placed in the middle of everything when in the previous versions of windows it's the first one (on top). is this microsofts way of playing with us?

I have no idea why they did this. maybe it slipped through or had issues with the build on dedicating to first spot on list.

4) even though it's not a lot of space, and it's a good idea, why couldn't they just leave the "peek" feature to the corners like every successful program that's done this. ...bottom corner-peek | bottom corner click-show desktop ....top corner-peek windows | top corner click-select specific windows

i recently used aim mail and pressed cntrl+shft+tab and this crazy subwindow showed up. (i type crazy because i had like 70 tabs open..lol) and it revealed all my tabs/webpages. this was interesting but i only know how to get to it by being on aim mails page.

I think this is the same as WindowsKey and Tab. it shows all windows staggered diagonally across the screen as an alternate to Alt+Tab. you can hold WinKey and press Tab to tab through the screens.

Hope all that helps.... I know Win7 is awesome and if you see something wrong with it that wasn't there in XP or Vista it is a little disheartening. I also don't think your wrong to complain. but maybe we can fix some of these issues as well. :) Let me know if you need anything.

Also what Tews said.

I know there were threads like this in the past that have been closed due to people arguing. There are valid points here and this thread serves as a place for people to express what they don't like about Windows 7. I don't want to see this thread closed.

Last week, we were able to download the latest version of the HP Universal Print Driver {64-bit version 5.1.0.1}, and it seems to work on both standalone mode, and it was able to integrate into Novell iPrint. --JB

I'm a dyed-in-the-wool Mac user, and I've upgraded to Win 7 on my work computer. I have to say, I don't find much wrong with the OS. (I know, all my Mac friends just gasped in amazement!).

We are having problems with print driver compatibility, but that's the printer manufacturers' issue, not MS's. --JB

For Quick Launch users it's just a mouse click away:

You can then just scroll and choose the window you need.

Additionally, most Logitech mice with extra thumb buttons have this feature assigned by default to the middle one.

The last few posts have just reminded me that there are many new users of win7 that did not share in the adventure we called Vista, where this feature first appeared and was one of the flagship UI features at it's launch

I remember fondly being hooked into those features on Vista...only to be disappointed in its performance in a few areas.

thorsen, you're great help, but i'm going to have to disappoint you in some parts. also, i dont' know how you divided my qoute, but trying to do so confused me a bit, so i'm just going to rely on your memory...:D :p

part 1. the quick launch: tried that before reading your msg, but no go. though, doing it again made me realize that it can solve another problem, limiting the space given to each pin-up icon, now i can fit 1.5 more icons in the same given space....how retarded...going forward in what is known to be advances just to find yourself going back a few steps... what should this be called..."move one step forward and two steps back" ??... if this continues i'll have to revert back to painting in caves.

part 2. power plan display: i've already done that, though for some reason the hotkey thing didn't work... shortcut properties > hotkey > ctrl+blah blah... i tried it a few times, didn't work.

part 4. all windows/tabs display: i've known about the windows thing...all three versions (bar in center of screen, diagonal, and a window that covers nearly the whole screen). one, what you gave me was not it. two, i do apologize, it seems i am missing some information for this one. what is missing is the fact that the display of the "firefox" tabs were "all presented" instead of what normally happens (you can only go forward one tab or backwards one tab). so, instead of seeing a few thumbnails of the webpages and having to scroll through some thumbnails to find what you're looking for, all of them were visible. since i had about 70 pages open, the thumbnails nearly took up the whole screen.

though you were not successful, i'm glad you tried. atleast you inadvertently succeeded in something, the "1.5 space" thing.

thanks.

...here's something i find rather humorous. for a person that explores more than any typical person, i am part of the many few that actually likes vista (even though it's the first sad rip off of mac). but even though i like it, it isn't without it's problems, but the problem is, whether the problems were big enough to acknowledge.

(my .5 cents)

I've loved it since I loaded the Beta. I never looked back since then.

No issues with programs or drivers for me; other than waiting for the OEMs to catch up to things.

Thumbs Up from me!!

typ911411and718 - "you'd think the term PC would be closer to it's true meaning. a computer that can be fully personalized" I totally agree! Even though, to Microsoft, Personal Computer doesn't mean a 'personalized computer' it damn well should!!!!! I bring up that very fact in my previous post.

And continuing in that vein, I'm also getting very much 'over' all the security precautions that stop, or get in the way of, me doing so much. Again, it's my computer and I should able to expose it to every virus known to man if I want to (not that I do but you get my point).

All these advances in the OS and msconfig is still in a window the size of a matchboxx and can't be resized? Sigh!

Why is Task Manager not activated by Ctrl + Alt + Del anymore? Something else happens when I press that key combination and Task Manager has been given a new one Ctrl + Shift + Esc. Now who thinks it makes more sense to do that than keep the old Task Manager combination and give the new combination to the new feature? Dumb!!!!

LOLz....

...oh how interesting... wait, no...not interesting anymore, mine doesn't work. there are four possibilities...1, your computer is altered to have that ability. 2, there's something wrong with my computer. 3, you typed it wrong. 4, it's along the lines of 1 but i forgot.

but yea, again with my "one step forwards and two steps back" statement, i agree, it's stupid to change something so simple and basic and add other features that, i believe, no normal person would ever care to use it there...like who the hell needs to change their stupid password so fast...or lock there computer with the pressing of three buttons and one click???.....you'd probably get it done faster moving your mouse and cursor to start > shut down triangle > lock.

...but, thinking about things, either way poses a problem, if anyone wanting to lock their computer [quick], they might accidentally select something else because everything is so close to each other.

...

sometimes i have this fantastical thought where i'd force myself into a company/project by all means necessary and hostage the people until i get the project/company just right. how intriguing this thought is...just like the "What If" machine the Professor created in Futurama.... LOL....

You might want to look at the "Windows Logo" key shortcuts.
I find them handy. :D

Task Manager was always CTRL + SHIFT + ESC, Only in Windows XP was the default action for CTRL + ALT + DELETE (client systems) was it to open Task Manager. Otherwise it would open a Windows Security dialog like it does in Window 2000, Server 2003/2008, Vista, 7.
