GOM Player not only plays anything you throw at it, it also has a good amount of playback options (audio & video), audio and video capture and if it doesn't have a codec for something, goes looking for it.

I like VLC for 2 reasons
1: It supports nearly all different codecs without the need to install a seperate codec pack
2: It lets you make picture snapshots at any point of the video

Hey whs,

I saw an article just yesterday about VLC. I think I'll d/l it and check it out. You've had good experiences with it I take it.

Not that I've had any bad experiences with GOM, I enjoy it, but I'm curious about the extras VLC has.

It sounds like it has a lot of features like GOM, so I'll check it out sometime.

WMP 12. As an overall audio/video solution that comes integrated, it does the job very well and with the Shark 007 Codec Pack, it plays pretty much anything I throw at it.

I use MPC for all my videos . (cause its faster than VLC, and has the "open each video in a new player" feature)

Real Player to play audios only . (cause i like its interface more than any other good audio player)

VLC as a back up player . (it can repair and play corrupted videos that MPC won't play)

I would now say Media Player Classic overall is the best player.

KMplayer & Gomplayer are nice too

VLC is good backup player because it plays everything out of the box but not the best codec for x264.
