And another one Dell says can't run windows 7:

By "can't run Windows 7" they mean that they don't feel like finding the drivers and providing them to you.

Exactly. It pays to write down the system info in bios. My only troubles with this one were finding a good driver for the GPU and that took me all of a half hour.

I'm posting this for the weird factor. This is what a bad stick of RAM can do for ya:

WEI006.jpg

I have a normal, spinning WD 160GB as my System drive, and it isn't supposed to be over 5.9, right? This was just the start of the weirdness. It took me three days to find, but the stick finally failed outright.

Everything else in the WEI was fine, but I was thinking the wife slipped an SSD in the case and reinstalled, and set up everything exactly the same...

I hate new builds. lol

Does this mean that my RAMs days are numbered? cuz I have the same thing. I'm running a normal SATA 2 spinner 80gb and I'm getting 7.0 reading

do I need to be looking for new ram? it also seems a lot slower than when I first installed last month but I thought it was because I've installed a lot more programs and I only have a 2gb stick

Hello Mellon Head.

For future reference, Memtest86 can (and should) be run before an OS is even installed, just boot the disk when you first start up the BIOS for the very first time and let it run for several passes to find whether any of the RAM is bad right off the bat; I know, hind sight and all that.

If you want to test your RAM, I'd suggest you download Memtest86+ - Advanced Memory Diagnostic Tool and use that to see. Just write it to a blank CD and restart, booting from the CD will start the test.

Good advice. I did a motherboard/CPU/RAM swap on an established system and ran Memtest right away. That was three weeks ago, since then both of my brand new sticks of RAM have failed. It won't even boot now. Good thing the new sticks arrive today.

Bye bye OCZ. Mushkin FTW!

Memtest 86+ is what most of us recommend.
If I remember correctly, it was thanks to you that I found MemTest86+ back when I first found SevenForums, before that I also used to use the old one.. I used to just type 'memtest' and do the ctrl + enter shortcut to do the "www.___.com" thing, so I never needed to search for it.
