Solved Getting used to dual monitors

I recently posted laptop for wife but she ended up wanting a new tv so i got the vizio 37 in lcd but it has a few features a 42 inch vizio doesn't have

anyhow from switching to display2 display and turning the tv to the cable and hdmi off does the video card reconize that that monitor isn't being used and doesnt co mingle with the desktop on the second screen ?

or does it just do nothing because it is off inactive or hdmi port is not in use?

just wondering never used dual screens untill i though of g i could watch movies from my pc to tv with out having to burn disc anymore so pretty much i am new to this effect

so please i hope i dont sound too stupid but i just wanted to know

also is there anyway to play games and the other screen do movies or that just can't happen thanks looking forward to some replys

The computer will still see the 2nd monitor and still "display" to it, but if you are, say watching TV, on it at the same time, it will display that instead.

In regard to the games and movies question, generally this is not easy with games as they by nature like to full screen applications. Unless a remote or some other interface is had to control the movie, you wouldn't be able to control the movie while in-game. Generally, you would want to make the movie be on the secondary display to avoid issues.

I figured gaming and movie play can be done at the same time but i was wondering about the controls


I dont want to be gaming then the next thing you know the mouse is killing the movie lol

slowly but surley im learning how to do this dual monitor it just helps when people know what to do therefore why i ask my questions thanks alot guys

It will remain on whichever one is active until you switch with the source button.

ok so basicly i can run the movie on the secondary and run the game on the main and just let the game use it cause the movie wont be effected due to the override of the game ?

ok i tryed to use the monitors to do two different things but it doesn't work is there a way i can get a walk through on how to use two monitors running two different apps with out conflicting each other or is there a program

I was told i could do this but it seems like it is not happening i want to be able to load a movie on one monitors via 37 inch vizio and game on my 22 inch with out swapping monitors back in fourth

well if that is the case i can always use the usb link on the tv to co mingle with the eternal hd that should allow me to watch movies with out using the pc too ?

I m asking cause im not sure what the effect of usb being put to this tv if it would even recnize it like that

Huh?

Yes you can use a full display. Using windowed mode means that you can move back and forth on the windows without using fullscreen, which would minimize the game/movie. You should be able to use MOST of the monitor (or all of it) if you run in windowed mode.
Otherwise, NO you cannot sue 2 fullscreen programs at once.

Don't be to sure about this Bob, there are many HDTVs that can read USB devices connected to them. Mostly for pics & music, but as to if they can play Divx/Xvid/WMV/etc...none that I have found yet Google'ing.

edit: LG has some HDTVs that can play Divx (and possible other formats)
edit2: Philips has some that can also play MPEG1, MPEG2, Divx, AVI
edit3: Samsung has some that can do DivX, H.264, XviD, MPEG-4/2/1 and WMV

I'm running dual monitors and I switch back and forth between single and dual monitors when playing games. Hit the windows key and P to pull up the selection menu. Select "Computer Only" and nothing you do on the PC will affect the second monitor/TV. If you want to take it to the next level you can create shortcuts to switch from single to dual display and back with a mouse click.

I have a vizio e series hdtv code name e370vl on my pc it has 2 hdmi 1 usb couple other things i also found out that you can use a usb flash drive but the movie speed will be terrible so i guess it isn't worth it might as well keep the main setup
