Hallo McSeven, as well as the good link Lasy B provided you will need to go into Task Scheduler and disable or delete the tasks for google updater

You will find even if you disable Google Updater Service that so long as the entries in Task Scheduler are active that they will restart Google Updater Service ;)

Hope your problem is resolved

I usually just delete the updater executable, I hate that thing. But the legitimate ways should work too. Have to stop it in msconfig startup, task scheduler, and even then the google product will still probably start the updater when you run it next. Possibly even restoring it to those places you removed it from.

How would one get rid of the Google Updater service in services? I've never installed google software and I noticed the services sitting there the other day. There is no google software currently installed either. The description on the services state that they are uninstalled automatically when google software is not using them. This doesn't seem to be the case. They show as Google Update Service(gupdate) and Google Update Service(gupdatem).

Go to the services console and locate google update service, stop the service if its running. Now, click start button and in the Run box type:

sc delete servicename

(where servicename is the name of the service). Hit Enter. Usually the servicename is gupdate or gusvc.

Hello shadedarkan and welcome to Seven Forums.

Couple of things you might try.

1. Right click on Computer > Manage > expand Service and Applications > click Services > find Google Update services > disable.
2. MSCONFIG > disable Google Update in Startup
3. Navigate to C:\Program Files\ (and look for) Google\Google Updater\GoogleUploader.exe
You could rename the .exe to something else like .xex in case you ever decide you want the updater service back again.
4. Use REGEDIT to find/delete googleupdate

EDIT: Once again Bill was faster on the keyboard than me :D

I was getting google updater thing on my system when I was using chrome browser. Instead of using a "track" such as "development" or whatever, I switched to download Chromium Win32 Snapshot .zip files. Portable. No mumbo jumbo. I save my Chromium folder from User\AppData\Local so if I get a bug I just put the Chromium build I was using before back, and copy my settings folder back. Bug gone.

No need to update and I'm using some of the latest code available. I look in the change log to make sure there's not a passle of issues before downloading a particular build.

You can download snapshot builds for Windows here:
http://build.chromium.org/f/chromium/snapshots/Win/

edit: btw every chrome extension I've tried works with chromium. It's not like Iron where some stuff won't install.

This is a boring issue with google! I tried to remove it by many ways but it returns back after reboot or launch any google program.
Hopefully the asker tell us which solution, if any, has solved this problem as I also wish to get ride of it.

Thanks

Yes, I did but I had GoogleUpdate active after reboot.
I have already entirely deleted the GoogleUpdate folder in AppData and Program Files folders and it seems GoogleUpdater has disappeared!

Good to hear sevener! :)
Google software, in my opinion, is very tenacious and hard to get rid of.
