I'm having a bit of an issue here... according to the AMD utility, my processor should be OK with virtualization (I have an Athlon 7750 BE). But the XP Mode installator says that my processor type doesn't support the installation package!

Yes, it was enabled by default.

I installed Sun VirtualBox but had to leave for work, so I think I'll give it a try in the afternoon.

Sometimes virtualisation options are labelled as VT so make sure those are enabled as well.

I just right-clicked and deleted a file within XP Mode and it went to the recycle bin.

Could be that you either held down right shift while deleting OR the file was too big for the bin and is automatically directly deleted.

If the application is running within XP Virtual-Mode then its sent to the XP recycle-bin.

XP is physically disconnected from your Windows 7 desktop and can't use anything thats there like applications, files, devices and etc.. thats on your machine that you have not installed/connected to your Virtual Machine yourself

that's the point, I deleted a file from a drive outside of XP's own. and it didn't go to any of the trash bins. well, but i'll put that thing aside...

how can I uninstall XP Mode? will it be completely erased with no trace left behind?
how could XP Mode compare to VirtualBox?

You can uninstall using Add/Remove programs. I don't know how much goes away as far as settings, etc. But the bulk should be gone.
