Hi all...

well well.. i've seen many a thread about good old iTunes not installing properly on win 7 but none that sound like my problem....

So ill start from the beginning.

I baught my computer not long ago
Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit build 7600

iTunes was one of the first apps i installed.
It worked fine for about 2 months.. then all of a sudden it froze.

upon reboot, if i tried to start iTunes, complete freeze again.. and I mean, total freeze, no alt ctrl del.. nothing but hard shut down would work.

funny enough upon restart, my keyboard was non responsive in the windows boot screen. so i just waited the 20 odd seconds till it started normally.

anyhow, I decided to uninstall.. trying my best to get rid of all remnants of this nasty apple app.

I re-downloaded the latest 64bit version from the apple website and tried to install... this time, it would get halfway through the install and complete freeze once again!

i tried this many times.
I tried:
running in compatibility mode (for all users)
running as admin (for all users)
I tried using the windows installer cleanup utility (however, nothing happened when i tried to run it...?)
even cleared the CMOS

still would freeze every time.

then, I decided to try install the old version (as I still had the setup.exe I had downloaded first which worked for 2 months)

It installed!

however, it said i could not burn CD's (due to an install error) nor could i sync my ipod with it (also due to an install error)
It recomended i update to the latest version as a fix

I Updated, and half way through the update, freeze again.

Keep in mind I completed full uninstalls after each attempt, have run revo and ccleaner to get rid of all reg keys and file folders etc...

I even attempted deleting the 'machine throttling' key in the 'Disabled Sessions' registry folder as i had seen some ppl suggest that..

Now, I am at a loss.. i am quite content with winamp, i can transfer files to and from my ipod with that.

I just want iTunes to work.. simple as that.

TIA for any help :)

As no one as helped I'll help (: um, the problem could be that .tmp files or "junk files" could be getting in the way of you installing the latest version of Itunes, I would download Ccleaner or Glary Utilities, or even both, these apps clean your pc and your registry, I've used both programs for years, also make sure your downloading the 64bit version of Itunes if there is one.

I would suggest you to create a new administrator account. Download itunes from www.apple.com/itunes/download . Install it normally. It must work.

Christoua, thanks for your reply. I have ccleaner and have run several registry cleans and it seems all my remainder itunes software files are gone. I will try Glary Utilities also. And yes, I have been trying the 64bit version (as well as trying compatibility mode etc) and it wont work. I tried the 32bit version for shits and it didn't start the install, it said i need 64 so thats that really. :P

not a bad idea.. however, I will then have to login to that account to use itunes.. how can i transfer all my user account settings from my existing admin account to a new one? then I guess i could delete my old account.. ill look into it.

Thanks for your reply!

ok so Now, after creating a new admin account I have downloaded the latest version of iTunes (ver10) from the iTunes website (64bit) and it installed ok... however, i get this message every time i open itunes "Itunes has not installed correctly, you may not be able to burn cds" or somthing like that.. which is fine, cos i dont burn audio cds anyway.. but I still wanna know why it hasn't installed propperly and how can I stop that annoying message from appearing every time i start itunes?
