Windows 7 RC - Cannot find CD/DVD device driver?

Hey folks.

I burnt the Windows 7 RC ISO to a DVD no problem as far as I'm aware. In am able to boot the computer off of the CD. When I go to install Windows 7, it tells me it can't find the CD/DVD device driver.

The driver is a SonyNEC Optiarc 20x AD-7190A model. Found the latest firmware (v 1.05); installed it.

Still not able to locate the drivers upon install.

I'm stuck.

Any ideas?

Very strange. To even tell you that, it had to read the data from the DVD lol!

There are other ways to install it, such as from a USB stick or external hard drive. Now that I think about it, you could probably even use a second internal hard drive to boot from (after setting things up of course) to install Windows 7 to the first.

You could possibly check out one of them.

Or if possible, move the DVD drive to its own port on the motherboard and set it as master with the jumper (if it's an IDE drive.)

Yeah, I saw the USB tutorial on here, but I want to attempt to fix this issue first. I don't understand why the W7RC installer sees the drive and even boots from it, but then doesn't recognize it when the actual install process is in its first stages.

Thoughts, anyone?

Sounds like a bad burn on the disc. Did you burn at a slow speed? Can you start the cd in your sony when logged in to vista 64? If so run setup exe and see if it will go past the point that it is stopping when booting from the disc. good luck and hope you get this fixed.

I used InfraRecorder. I don't know what the standard burn speed it, but I'm quite certain its default isn't "slow." I am unable to run setup.exe from within Vista x64. I get two error warnings; both basically saying it's unable to be run.

Burn speed affects ISO disk functionality? Is there a better ISO burner than InfraRecorder?

Since for some reason, Win7 can not see your DVD drive.
1. open system and insure the DVD device is set a Master or slave depending on how you have it installed. (Win7 does not like CABLE SELECT).
2. normally that will allow Win7 to see your DVD.
3. If this does not work, use the manual install method.
4. also insure the dvd device is shown in the bios.
5. watch carefully on boot, and insure the boot sequence shows the dvd device.
I have found once in a while, since Win 95, totally removed the device, boot , normally. wait 3 min. shutdown, install device insuring the cable matches the proper selection on the device. (do not use cable select) either master or slave. boot an enjoy you DVD device.

I had the same problem (using the same unit). Removed the sony and installed an HP that was doing nothing but lying around, and what do you know it worked. My unit came with the sony (SATA), and from the beginning was if nothing a big problem. Sony is sending me a new unit (no cost).

The drive is discontinued tho. I'm not even sure if it's still under warranty. What link or phone number did you use to attempt to get a better drive? Did you attempt any solutions prior to replacing the drive?

Went to Sony on line (support) and emailed them of the problems I was having. My computer is a Gateway FX series (purchased in July of 08) with Vista Ultimate installed. When first attempting to install 7 beta it wouldn't work (Nov 08) then again in Jan 09 with 7 beta 7000, then finaly with RC in April. So the DVD drive was still within the one year warranty. All my work with sony was done via email. Had to supply them with all the info on the computer along with purchase date, and a copy of the manifest from Gateway to ensure the purchase date was in order. It took about two weeks before receiving an answer, but in my case it was the right answer.

Yes, make sure it is set to Slave or Master - depends on how you have it installed.

Open Device Manager.

1. Right-click the top node in the details (action) pane.
2. Click Add legacy hardware.
3. In the Add Hardware Wizard, click Next, and then follow the instructions on your screen.

It is as an Optiarc AD-7190A. yes I understand what it is.

What is considered a good speed to burn an ISO image? 1x? 4x?

Jumpers for the optical drive are on Master setting.

I did a slow burn (1x) with ImgBurn, and it still wouldn't work properly (i.e., upon bootup or autorun from within Vista).

I ended up re-downloading the file from the MS W7 site, this time using IE8 and its plug-in d/l manager, and it burnt fine to a new DVD next time around.

No errors - check
Verify OK - check
Autorun OK - check
Bootable install - check

I can only assume the initial ISO file I was working with was a d.o.a. - probably a hiccup in the initial download connection or a strange pause.

Hi, i am running into a similar problem where i get stuck at the dirver install screen. I am running XP Pro and im installing windows seven in Microsoft Virtual PC. i have tried burning at slowst speeds and now have used three DVDs! anyway i still end up at the "load Driver" page. DVD must be working properly for windows to even start the install process... why is it neccessary for windows to load a driver when its running off the CD already??? any help would be greatly appreciated! Your using the XP Drivers to start with, and if your CD-DVD is not recognized by Win7, then you have to install them prior to allowing Win7 to continue, sort of like SATA drivers, or in my case my IDE extension card. Put your cd-DVD drivers on a flash drive or floppy drive, which ever you use. then install.
