window screen opening and closing at startup, instanly.

I have two computers that have win 7 x64 pro/ult. Recently, both computers, after typing in my poassword for login to windows, I get the desktop, icons, the hardware meter gadgets, then a windows pops up, near the top left corner, about a 1/6 of the screen size, and it immediately closes. It isn't there long enough for me to read anything in it, or even see if there is anything in it.

Under start-up folder in the start menu, both computers do have logitech registration. I click it, fill it out, and re start the computer. Still happens, and the start up folder still has logitech's product registration there. I complete it, restart the computer, and the window still shos up, then closes. Damn near instantly. Under start-up, the logitech thing is gone, so it is blank. But it still happens.

Installing the webcam and using it for Logitech Vid, is the only thing I have changed recently on both computers. Also, windows 7 did have an update, monday i believe...

Any thoughts? I have no idea what to look for in regedit.

Type event viewer in search and see if anything appears there, that might be an answer

Try a clean boot to try to localize the cause.

Unless on a network, if two computers just started this recently, it is something that you did.

Why do you consider this a problem?

Are you on a home network or a corporate network? If corporate network it could be the network admin has set you up with some kind of login script.

Regardless, it could be that a recently installed software package runs some kind of a script or cmd file during Windows startup. Have you used msconfig to view what programs are being started? Might even be something being run by a service that's being invoked so you could also check in Services to see what Services are set to automatically run at startup.

Well, removing the "logitech software" fixed the problem.

It bothers me because it's a slow laptop. I don't want or need anything running other than the absolute basics. And I wasn't sure it wasn't spyware/virus/etc...

still annoying that I had to remove that. I got on the logitech forums, but the registry fix they suggested didn't apply to me. (different OS/software?)

On my desktop, I just need to figure out how to prevernt that window from opening/closing. It's a core i7, so I'm not too worried about the performance impact, lol.

If the Logitech software serves a useful purpose then why care that the window pops up? I can understand wanting to know why it pops up and making sure it's not some malware but know that you know, why is it a problem?

mostly because I'm a control freak. It doesn't really bother me that it happens, just that I don't have the choice to prevent it from happening. If there as an option to not launch at start-up, that would make me happy. Since I only use the webcam once a month or so, it was easier just to remove the software in this case.

I am still searching the logitech forums for an idea on how to prevent it from auto-launching at start-up, without also disabling some of the other features.
