Internet Explorer 9 beta: The beauty of the web

I don't think I'm too crazy about the menu layouts, and I'm also a big fan of Firefox's ability to set up the menus the way you like. Maybe somebody will make an add on for that. Heh, maybe I will myself.

I do have to say that I'm really impressed with the fluidity of the page rendering and the overall loading speed of pages. The scrolling is impressive too. Scrolling in FF is a little bit jerky. IE9 behaves a bit more like I would expect a browser to run on a relatively high end machine like mine, so we'll see.

I'm a die hard FF user, but I'm going to give this a go for a week and see if I really like it.

Yea I have to say I do like the smoothness of the scrolling in IE9, whereas it is a bit jerky in Chrome as well.

I noticed that scrolling has vastly improved on IE9 compared to IE8, especially when going to this site. However, selecting text is still a hassle in there.

Tried it for 45 mins and I'm back in Opera. Don't think I could ever use it with the Address Bar in the same line with the open tabs - complete nonsense - and what's all that empty space above the address bar? Maybe this is why they suggest that you pin websites to the taskbar! yeah, right - I've already filled the taskbar with programs.
Their other ideas are to pin to the start menu or desktop - really useful!

Apart from that - I tried the 'square' Adobe and the videos are like old Charlie Chaplin films - with frames missing and really jerky. But fine in Opera and Firefox.

I installed it, tried it and dumped it within 15 minutes. There are no Favorites bar or Menu bar. I already have Chrome, which I rarely use, so I don't need another "chrome" style browser.

The I.E.9 browser is not compatible with the Dell users forum unless it uses the compatibility mode.
You can get the Favorites bar if you right click next to the tabs and check the "Favorites bar" option.

And this will give you the menu bar back,

Ok so after using IE9 for 2 days I like the fact you can pin websites to the taskbar. However I don't like that they open all in a new window. You should have an option to open them in different tabs so the pined sites would just be like a quick launch bookmarks.

The one feature that is still awkward is the fact that the Favorites Icon is now in the upper right had position of the browser rather than on the Favorites Bar, for me.

I thought it was located right next to the Add Favorites Icon in IE8.

I'm sure someone else doesn't like the position either and will come out with an addon to move it.

For now, it is just a small nite to me. The performance outweighs this problem for now.

So far so good, but takes a bit of getting used to where the new locations at the top are wish menu bar could be on the same line (left handside) as the command bar (right handside). Th eonly way I have managed to get command bar to be on the right is if I have favourites bar ticked..........which I do NOT want :-(

One problem (probably minor) that I am experiencing is when I try to download a torrent on ISO Hunt I get the pop up saying 'Unable to Download etc .............Unable to open this internet site ............it is either unavalaibale or cannot be found. Please try again later.

I use Azureus as my Bit Torrent Client

Has anyone any idea how to get this to work

:sarc:

I, on the other hand, installed the regular version of Flash after installing the beta and the videos look just fine.

It's reasonably functional.
Running it side by side with 8, not unless you dual boot with 8 on the other side.
Having the search in the address bar cleans up the interface, although you won't know it's there unless you look.

I noticed a few sites where the images didn't display correctly.
It's a beta, that's to be expected.

With the Flash exploit and Adobe dragging their feet, I opted for the beta flash install for 32 and 64 bit.
Seems stable so far.

Sadly on my computer, I just don't have a suitable Graphics Card on my main laptop. Instead of using hardware acceleration for rendering it uses software rendering. It is usable, but there are stuttering when scrolling and when viewing some animations. (Depending on CPU load) On my computer: Internet Options > Advance, first item "Use software rendering instead of GPU rendering" is checked and grayed out. My resolution is also problematic, 1920x1200 is at the edge of what my GPU can handle let alone the CPU.

The GPU on my main laptop is an ATI Mobility Radeon x1400 (128 MB)

On my netbook, however, it the complete opposite. The integrated Intel Graphics seems to support most of what IE 9 needs to GPU render. It of course doesn't get any good FPS for there complex demos like IE FishTank. I also do like the UI on the netbook (and on the main laptop despite 1200 pixels of vertical space) the minimal vertical space is a real place I only wish it went further and moved the whole line into the tile bar. As for the limited about of tabs it can hold...eh I just open a new Window no big deal.

Yes unlocked toolbar but Command Bar is STILL on left handside.

So are you saying you have the Command Bar (Page, Safety, Tools etc) on the right handside with nothing on the left?
