Someone must know how I can fix my disc drive?

everyone has to learn somewhere.. at least you're trying to learn how to fix it yourself instead of paying someone to do it for you..so try the firmware update. and let us know how it works

I may end up paying someone yet because it says the drive is up to date :sarc:

No need to pay anybody. If we do not succeed to fix it here, you should go back to Dell and have them fix it. Since your system is pretty new, it should still be under warrenty.

Hmm I did the troubleshooting and it didnt have any issues in the sound/dvd section but when I scanned the devices it says there was a problem. I viewed the additional info and it said ''windows configured to never install drivers' then went on to say issue not found next to it. wtf.

Im a bit pissed off since my drive is pretty important for me. Im trying to finish a film project for college

I did that and restarted, tried a CD and still won't recognise a disc being there

so the drive starts and does it read the disc and windows gives you a pop up error?

No I put the disc in and nothing. When I click the drive to see if its reading it just opens the tray and says insert disc.

do this>>
go to control panel> click admin tools> click computer management> on left hand pane click device manager> look in the tree for dvd/cd drives> left click the triangle to bring down the drive details > right click > left click update drivers > i will do a screen shot if you want

Hey yeah I've tried that. It always says something like Windows detects that the software is up to date and it doesn't let me do anything after that.

Guess I need to put it into a shop to get fixed?

In device manager right click the dvd drive /uninstall the driver. then reboot and it should reinstall the driver. after reboot go back to device manager the right click dvd drive /scan for hardware changes.
i cant say it will work but worth a shot as all else has failed

Tried that twice and rebooted and nothing yet :sarc:
