Hi,

I just downloaded MS Office 2010. Now, all the office icons - Excel, PowerPoint etc ..... and all the icons in Start menu and my desktop such as Norton 360, iTunes, Quicktime Player, Calculator etc. show up as the Microsoft Word icon.

In other words all the original icons are missing and the only icon I see - for all software programs is Microsoft Word.

I had a virus on my laptop a few weeks ago and I deleted a folder .... or something ... but I'm not sure what it was. Can someone please tell me what I deleted and how I can get it back?

Thanks,
M

Thanks WindowStar, I'm not sure what to download though. This is what happened when I clicked on the link. I'm sorry, I forgot to tell everyone that I'm not Windows savvy.

Airbot, isn't there a tutorial or a REG to fix the Office 2010 icons on the forum? That will be much better than taking a lot of screen shots to help Ivy9?? FileTypesMan is a great program but you need a good computer background in file associations etc.

Thanks

Found a fix, at least for me...

I have seen this error with two laptops now...wouldn't be too surprised if there's an update on its way from Microsoft to fix it.

I have seen on other forums recommending that you delete and re-create the user account, but there is a much faster fix. It involves editing the registry, so if you're not comfortable doing that, find someone else who is. :)

Open the registry editor (regedit.exe) and navigate to:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FileExts\.lnk

If your icons are all Microsoft Word, you probably do not see a key under the above path called OpenWithList. Right click on the .lnk key and choose "New > Key". Type in OpenWithList and press Enter. Now logout and log back in and the problem should be fixed.

At least, that's what worked for me. Good luck!
