Hi,

Sorry if this is an offtopic in meanig of the main topic Hardware & Devices but if it is please sorry....

OK my problem is following:

I have installed Windows 7 Ultimate x86 (32-bit).
When I bought my PC my RAM status was normal 2-3 % in desktop with no programs running.

But now the stats is permanent on 32-40 % when no programs are running except anti-virus and Realtek HD audio manager.

I tried reinstalling but it didn't helped.

I don't know what to do now.

Please help me.

With 2GB installed, 32-40% your using between 645-810MB at idle.

Most Windows 7 systems with 4GB installed will normally use, depending on the setup, approx. 1GB of RAM at idle.

So that would seem completely normal IMHO, nothing to worry about.

Im confused about the 3%.
3% of 2GB is only 61MB, Windows simply can not run with that little.

Perhaps others that know for sure what normal use is with less than 4GB can chime in with a more precise answer.

That is normal.
Mine is using 35% right now.
Look at my picture and you will see a lot of it is allocated for future use but shows in the 35%.
"Standby" and "Modified" are ready for use when necessary.

Good idea going to 4GB of Ram. System will work much better.

I think the 2-3% you saw before was CPU usage. Which is what mine does at an idle.

Ok, thx for these (for me) great news but I have one more question:

At your picture you have 1146 or something of FREE ram but at me there is NO FREE RAM......

But when all this is normal, why is my PC running slower than earlier?

If and when you add more RAM you will show RAM free at idle.
Then your Resource Monitor will look similar to mine.

Your specs.
Memory 2 GB but will update to 4 GB

The RAM usage is normal. I dont know if it is true but i had similar problem of slower PC and i get rid of it by installing a newer "Build" of Windows 7. Try the same and please confirm my results.

I noticed you have some kind of tuneup program running. I don't know what it is but I do know that Windows 7 doesn't need any tuneup programs.

you want to tell me to uninstall tuneup utilities 2010???

Why ?

Its not true that win 7 dont needs any tuneup programs because it found many registry problems and cleaned them up, so why do you mean thy windows 7 dont needs any tuneup programs?

Registry cleaners used on Windows 7 are very likeky to damage the registry.
If this happens Windows 7 may have to be reinstalled.

On Windows XP they were very nice to keep things working properly.

I don't trust any of the registry cleaners on Win 7. If you consider you must use a registry cleaner the Ccleaner is the only one considered safe by many on this forum.
Free and available here.

Piriform - Download CCleaner, Defraggler, Recuva, Speccy - Millions of users worldwide!

I also beleive the comment about "Snake Oil" was imprudent, unhelpful and rude.

That is my point.

I suggest you not use one at all.
Your decision though.
If your not having problems with the current one that is fine.
Just be aware it might cause a problem not that it will.:D

Mike

I think your RAM is fine. More would be nice when you can.;)

The problem with registry cleaners are that they need to essentialy "guess" at what they are doing.
You really do not want something guessing at what to delete do you?

Just because it says its a bad entry, doesnt mean it is.

If you start looking through exactly what its wanting to delete, you will find many references to legit keys of software you have installed and use.
And probably many you dont know what they are, which are best left alone.

Bottom line is, cleaning the registry will not give you any more performance, nor will it hurt performance by leaving it alone.
The only thing it does do is potentially cause problems, not solve them.

However, if you want to clean leftover keys from software you uninstall, the best method is with REVO Uninstaller.
It will only delete the leftover reg. keys of the application you just uninstalled.

All other keys should be left alone.

These are programs only good if you want to throw away money.

Upgrading your hardware from 2GB --> 4GB will be far more beneficial.

All these programs that say they Improve performance etc are only after your money, and seldom ever actually do any good.

When you are looking to improve performance of your machine, theres simply no software out there that can over come the limits of the hardware.

Windows 7 actually has excellent Memory Management, IF you let it do its thing and do not try to alter it.

I noticed you have some kind of tuneup program running. I don't know what it is but I do know that Windows 7 doesn't need any tuneup programs.

I'm inclined to agree with Layback Bear about not needing any tuneup programs running in Windows 7, but others will swear by them so... But I personally don't use any tweak or tune-up programs on my systems.

Sometimes those tweaks/tune-up utilities can disable/disrupt systems/services that may not seem like much now, but can have an impact down the road.

As to memory usage, as everyone has pointed out, it's normal. The longer your system is running and the more programs your system uses, the more memory gets used. This is normal for any system.

My two cents.

Personally I think those tools promise a lot but give you nothing in the end.
Windows 7 optimizes on its own quite well.

Just my opinion but with your equipment you should be good for a long time.
Extra Ram will be a plus.

Ok but

TuneUp utilities is prefect and it is like the little brother to windows 7. They harmony. There are no keys that it deletes when you don't want that and it describes in detalis what the key is and witch apps are using it.

I thank you all for your answers and you help.

I have another question but It has nothing to do with this topic
