There is a USB keyboard setting and also a legacy USB setting. It said legacy right? They are two different things.

Did you say the event log mentioned anything? Event Viewer > Custom Views > Administrative Events?

When you go into action center, then to maintenance, check for solutions to problem reports

Try troubleshooting your hardware also in action center

What kind of keyboard is this? Who makes it? Did you check for updated drivers?

You don't have multiple drivers installed for multiple keyboards? I don't think it works like that. But honestly I still think its your motherboard is shorting

How to fix Keyboard and Mouse Disconnecting.

check the ASUS website for any updates that windows didn't detect for the motherboard.

Make sure all cables are connected correctly and securely.

check another keyboard with the USB ports to make sure the keyboard isn't messed up (unless you already did)

Did this always happen or did it just recently start to happen?
First you go to start, Search programs and files, type in manage, go to computer management, go to Device Manager, Serial Bus Controllers, generic USB HUB (there might be 2, do this for both of them) Double click on it,
Power Management Tab, Uncheck the first one.

Apologies in advance, I know this is an Old post but.....
i am having almost the same issues as the OP. Except in my case it is the front panel usb ports. and from my research it would appear that it is a motherboard front panel USB slow fail. Apparently some component is failing on the motherboard. The Wireless mouse isn't affected as much as the keyboard because it requires less power. whereas the keyboard (illuminated in my case) has a higher power requirement. I would advise getting usb extender or hub and using one of the ports on the rear of the machine.

I recently received this Monoprice Gaming Keyboard and am running into a serious issue.
