please don't laugh...
Ok, I don't really have an short explanation of how I got to where I am, but here is the gist. Windows prompted me to restart or postpone for an update -I clicked restart and all heck broke loose. Being as I'm a girl in my early 20s, my knowledge of computer leaves much to be desired. Anyways, I'm also cheap and I HAVE to fix my laptop on my own. It's barely a year old and I am not about to give Acer $200 to possibly fix it. So I called Microsoft and they led me through a bunch of steps that led to no fixes, and in the end they told me to reinstall but that led to more problems. For example, when I booted, it told me I was "missing operating system" and all my partitions disappeared (whatever that means).
So after much googling and trying to figure out my pc and super layman's terms, I stumbled on you post (God send!). Before, Windows 7 would stop and give me error code 0x80fe0000
I followed your instructions to the T. I was ready to lose all the information I didn't back up, but anything so I could get my computer life back. But then, it didn't Windows didn't start. I got all the way through Step 9. And it said it completed installation, but Step 10 never came. It just says "no bootable disk --insert disk and press any key"
So I googled some more and people said to go into my BIOS and change the boot order so HDD is first. Well, I don't have HDD listed. The only two with populated options is IDE0 and CD/DVD. I think Windows 7 is installed in there but it's not booting.
When I booted via DVD again, I can get to the repair part and it does list Windows 7 -which before, it didn't list anything.
Help!
I have been 6 days without a pc (aside from this one which I temporarily swiped from a friend) and I have grad school applications I need to work on.
Sorry this is long, but I hope you can help me!
