I am going to get a nap. Mess with it more laters.

Be nice if when I hook up that other drive, if w7 could see it and let me re register it and nuke the os on the sata II drive.

I am glad I do not have to reinstall the os every 1 1/2 to 2 years like I did with xp..

I think I am going to like w7..

Have a great day and Holidays.. Maybe I will see ya laters..

    Cool,

I will check that out when I get up..

Oh ya. I am building this as a gamer. My buds system is normal desk top use. So I would like my system lean. I am using basic display settings, no areo or glass stuff on this system. And I am shutting down lil modules like gadgets etc as I go.

I wanted to ask while I am thinking about it. What about this marvell raid tray thingy I installed. I do not think I need it, and it is just running in the back ground. I did click on it to see what it would do. It carried me to some log on screen. I am not sure what it is. I have no plans to run any raids. But I am not sure I need it for AHCI.

If I do not need it. I would like to delete it and be done with it. But I think when I installed it, now I have on my task bar a lil deally that says- safely remove hardware and eject media. I guess it is like the windows built in thing that pops up if you connect a flash drive or something. I never noticed it until I installed the marvell sata6 drivers and the tray thingy..

It is just eating resources imo. I play fps or rps games and make game play videos etc. And with my old vid card until I can get a nv 470 or 570. I could use every lil extra I can get.. Soon As I can Get this 1 set up right, and build my buds system. I am going to try and over clock this system. It is said with my specs and cooler. I might be able to get over 4.2. I would be happy at 3.8 or so. 3.6 is good..

    We will see..

I would gladly delete this marvell tray stuff if it is ok.. I am not sure my sata 7-8 connectors need it or not.. I am happy with the built in windows thing that says- it is safe to remove hardware.. Maybe I should wait..

I am out .. see ya..

What is the Marvell controller being used for if you don't have RAID? How is it listed in Device Manager?

Did you uninstall the full software package, or how else did it come in? Is it currently running in Task manager Processes (after hiding all MS services)?

I would Google it to see if the software package itself can be uninstalled, but just to be sure don't uninstall the driver.

I know of nothing like this that needs to run at Startup in Systray unless you use special settings accessed only by the systray icon. I turn off everything in msconfig>Startup except AV and gadgets using these steps: Startup Programs - Change

Go through all the settings accessed by clicking the SysTray icon to find the one to turn it off at Startup, in Systray, or Updater. You may have to click on the software itself to find the Preferences settings. Unless you turn off the software's settings, it may turn itself back on after unchecking it in msconfig>Startup.

    Thanks gregrocker.

I just woke from a 3 or so hour nap. Best I read It provides both raid and AHCI support?

I was reading before my nap, and found the drivers home site. I think I need to keep these marvell drivers and tray. I think it is the actual drivers to run my sata7-8 slots.. I installed it from my msi with mobo disc.. The ones at site might be more new.. I can read tons of info but can not find downloads. I think I have to join the site to find downloads. Might be same as I have, so Im not trying to join another site.

Maybe, If I start an account here. I can figure out what the log on screen is inside of the marvell tray thingy, I have to have some account and pass word before it will let me enter it. So- Maybe I need to join this site.>

    Marvell: SATA controllers - PC/Consumer

I read Maybe I should have added the support at w7 install when it asked if I have raid or ahci drivers on fdd or cd/dvd/ or flash drive. But I was not sure how to do that..

I have read else wheres. The way we/I have done this should work. I need to wake up for a few minutes. I will shut it down and move the sataIII to sata7. It should work being the drivers for the controller are installed. It mobo should see my drive now- when I put it on sata7.

See if it boots as normal. Then I will shut it down again. add the sataII to sata1. Hopefully I am good to go. I will nuke the sataII drive and make it storage.

Being the driver is installed. I think the sata7-8 should work now. I do not think much different installing during w7 install or later. The slots are not working until the drivers are installed so..

We will see. I guess I will have to live with this marvel tray thingy. Fine with me as long as all my hardware works. And I know for sure what drivers do what now- or for the most part anyway..

I will check back a lil laters. After I change things around and reboot a few times etc. Let ya know how it is going.. It is a lil sad, how hard the mobo makers and mirosoft made it to get sataIII or AHCI support and use these connectors on my mobo. I/we will figure it out for sure tho..

    Thanks again..

I just read this someplace else. I am not sure it is a good thing or not. But I have to have the driver to run the sataIII sata 7-8 ports..>

" It seems that the marvell has added a lil thing to my task bar"

"The Marvell Controller is an 'external' controller, different than the SB/ICH10R, & when AHCI is set for the Marvell Controller, essentially ports 7 & 8 are 'hot plug' & show up in the Sys Tray as 'Removable' drives. Please, anyone out there more sharp on this than me, feel free to make corrections."

Well one of the things you gain from AHCI is hot-plugging so apparently this is how the Marvel works, accessible to Safely Remove in the SysTray. It makes sense since if you just yanked the plug from mobo during a copy or other operation it could mess up the file system or HD. So it works like an external that way, even though it is clearly not USB but SATA.

Others with more familiarity on Marvel's AHCI features will hopefully pitch in here.

A standard troubleshooting step for Win7 when multiple SATA drives are present is to unplug all to try install, set SATA controller to AHCI, and if necessary plug HD into SATA1 which often works when the other steps don't.

Well I changed up the connection, Just using my sataIII and put it on the sata7, checked bios for boot order. I am in windows now, so it works, cool.

When it started, it seemed to start my antivirus etc slow. I did not know if it froze, but I could move the mouse etc. Then windows popped up and said it install some driver for my wd sata drive. I have read some of them need or get a driver update to work with w7 or something.. But said I have to reboot. It is done. I can not find what it installed. I think I can check pop up message log?

Now. I will shut it down and add my sataII to sata1, boot to bios set order and boot to w7 and try and reformat the sataII and make it a storage drive..

I am not trying to mess with anything marvell on my task bar. Ha ha do not want to disconnect my drive maybe. I dont know.

This mobo has a chip like the gd85 mobo where the mobo can run sataIII and usb3 at full speeds and not put a hit on the pcie or cpu what ever it is. Said can game what ever using usb3 sataIII with no or lil hit in graphics performance, is why I bought them, well that and 3 year warranty.

Be nice if it was stickies or something at msi forums exactly how to set this stuff up. Would save tons of time and aggravating. It really would. The manual only goes into details talking about the over clocking features or its part of the bios, sucks.

    Thanks a lot man..

    Now I am happy.

I did the reg work around and it worked. I followed the links to learn how to bring up cmd. after clicking on the reg file to merge it. I typed cmd into start search and from there got into cmd, typed in what was needed- reboot, add my code, its done..

Sweet.. Ha ha all of that. My drives will never run full speeds unless in a raid. Its funny, but its all working, and I am ready for some ssd drives when the costs come down.

Thank you very much - Thanks for windows seven forums..

    Great holidays to all..

What AV are you using? Try free MS Security Essentials with the Win7 firewall for best performance.

See if you really have Marvell controls running in the SysTray by parking your mouse on each icon until it tells what it is. If so, click on it and go through the settings to see if there is an obvious one to turn it off. It may have only been notice that you can hot-unplug via Safely Remove Hardware. Click on it to see if your HD is listed.

Set a System Restore point, then check msconfig>Startup to see what all is starting up with computer. Everything except AV and gadgets is unneeded and can start when clicked on, slows your startup, freeloads on your CPU/RAM, and can spy on you. Startup Programs - Change

If you see Marvel in the list you can turn it off with the others to see how it affects performance. Your HD will start. You also have the SysRestore point if needed which can be run from your Install DVD or Repair CD. System Repair Disc - Create
