oh gosh another problem i somehow got hold of a XP DVD and tried installing on my desktop. The installation went perfectly till system restarted and now its stuck on my ASUS boot screen where it asks to click on DEL for setup.I clicked on DEL many times but to no avail.

btw i already have windows 7 installed on my pc and i am trying to install windows XP as dual OS.

    Any ideas what to do???

@theog At Bootup screen pc is not accepting any input.I tired pressing F8,DEL and TAB but still nothing.
Next i tried windows 7 DVD to do start up repair, still the screen is stuck at bootscreen.Dont know what else to do.

I want to reset my CMOS back to factory settings.Maybe that will help.I have opened my box many times so no problem there.I have ASUS mobo but dont know how to reset CMOS.

Always disconnect the power cord and bleed of any residual power by repeatedly pressing the power button first.

Remove the small silver battery attached to the motherboard for a period of time and when it is replaced the BIOS/CMOS will be set back to default, just be mindful of any stray static electrical charges and be sure to keep your forearm against the PC case when handling PC/mobo components.

I removed the battery and disconnected power cord for about 2 hours.Just now put the battery back on and started my system and its still stuck on bootup screen.

The only positive is i already have backup of my data on external hard drive but i still want my windows 7 back.

I am really in a bind here

Remove CD from the drive to see what happens.

Next Clear CMOS - 3 Ways to Clear the CMOS - Reset BIOS

It sounds like you were getting Installation restart Boot menu typical during XP install - did you try to just leave it so it proceeded with timeout and re-entered install?

Once you get the BIOS unhung, try putting the CD in drive to see what happens. If nothing, reboot and begin install again. See if it picks up where it left off. If not, Delete the XP partition and create a new one, full format.

@greg Yes it was the typical restart when installing XP.Immediately after restart it stuck on my boot up screen,i let my pc on for about 30 min or so but still nothing.Oh one more thing my mobo is a bit old (2006 manufacture). Before installing XP i changed the boot up order from HDD to DVD drive.

Let me try to reset my CMOS by going through the link you mentioned above. Will post back soon
