If you`re not happy with the result and you don`t want to clean install, then create an image of your hard drive using Macrium, store it on your external, and image the ssd with it.

Too late ? You live right next door it`s only 7 PM

I know but, when your 69 years old fighting cancer and didn't eat yet. It is late. :)
Learning on my own too, so bear with me, others would have given up.

You may be right. I went to bios and started from SSD, it might not have stayed that way. Options are boot menu, which I changed, and boot from LAN, which I didn't use. Maybe I used the wrong option. I used the boot menu and picked SSD.

Boot time still not any faster.

    But, I see your point.

Sorry to hear all that, get some rest

Yes, now you are booted into the ssd, as it now shows as C

It should boot fine on it`s own, maybe you can dis connect the power from the hard drive tomorrow.

Did I use the wrong option to save the boot? How to make SSD stay ahead of the HDD boot?

Yes, I will do that. Why the boot from I picked doesn't stay, I don't know. But either way it still boots the same as when HDD boots.

Congratulations! We've seen a lot of problems with Macrium cloning lately but the last screenshot shows you did it correctly!

The SSD clone is booting as C with the System Active boot files on the System Reserved partition on that same drive as intended. You should be able to boot the SSD now with the HD detached. See if that resolves your slow boot problem. If not I'd move the data off the HD and wipe it with Diskpart Clean Command before repartitioning it as a data drive.

Then swap the cables between the SSD and HD so the SSD is in the preferred DISK0 position to avoid future problems derailing the System partition to a preceding Primary partition if/when you run Repair or Reinstall. An alternative if the data drive is going to be in first position is to format it Logical which cannot have the boot files derailed to those: Partition / Extended : Logical Drives - Windows 7 Forums

Make sure the SSD is set as Primary hard drive in BIOS setup, and as the first device to Boot in the BIOS BOot Priority order. Some BIOS have both settings, others only the Boot Order to set a HD as first to boot.

Do you want to keep some or all data on the data partition on the hard drive, perhaps linked to the SSD? The data is the one element you can keep on the HD without affecting speed, while all Programs, the OS and Paging file need to stay on the SSD to be fastest.

If so you can rightclick folders on the Data partition to add them to the related Library - Include a Folder - Windows 7 Forums or even copy your User folders (Document, Pictures, etc) to the Data partition to include in their related Library, setting the data partition copy as the default Library - Set Save Folder - Windows 7 Help Forums .

If you're even more serious about having your User folders reside on the data drive, you can also move the User folders themselves there as shown in User Folders - Change Default Location . The only drawback to this is you can't use Windows Backup imaging without it wanting to include the data drive as a system partition, but Macrium doesn't do that so you'd be fine with it.

Once you're ready to get rid of the Win7 partitions on the hard drive, Mark System Reserved Inactive then delete each in Disk Mgmt. You can then create new Partitions there or Extend the data partition into the Unallocated space by as much as you want using How to extend partition easily with Partition Wizard - video help.

If you're not satisfied with the speeds and still have the HP factory preinstall, remember that is the worst possible install of Win7 in the industry, larded with more bloatware and duplicate factory utilities that interfere with better versions built into Win7. So you'll only enjoy native Win7 perfect performance if you do a Clean Reinstall Windows 7. The steps in the blue link show how to get the best possible install possible.

He`s done all that, are you not following along.
Did you not look at his latest DM shot ?

His ssd has to be hooked up to his 1st sata port (labeled sata 0 or 1)

Until he installs the proper Intel sata drivers and or chipset drivers, the ssd may or may not go to disk 0 in disk management and it doesn`t matter anyway.

Once he marks the hard drive inactive and formats the non data partitions that problem will resolve itself.

According to his DM shot, that logical data partition has basically nothing on it. 694 GB free of 696 GB. Put any data you have there onto your My Book.

And you need to add that 3.05 GB of un allocated space to the SSD, just use Disk Management to extend C

I`d like to know the exact make and model of the ssd (a link from it`s maker would be perfect) and same goes for the motherboard, I`d like to see if it has Intel 6Gbps sata ports.

Okay, here is where I am. Took me awhile to get bios set up, but is ok now, CD 1st boot, SSD next. Disconnected HDD, Disconnected External drive. Started computer, and it boots fine, all works.

SSD is a Silicon Power S80, SATAlll, 240GB.

    Motherboard I have no clue.
