Switching to a new computer, no optical drive

Hi, I would appreciate any suggestions on how best to do this. I purchased Windows 7 from the ultimatesteal.com and have it installed on my lenovo x60. I just bought an x200 which I want to migrate to. Will I be able to use my x60 if I've installed my Windows 7 on another computer? I would like my x60 to still be useable in case of emergency, but I guess it is okay if I can't use it anymore.

At any rate, I am not sure how best to accomplish the move. I have redownloaded the installation file for windows 7 (not sure if it will work since this is a second computer), but maybe it would be better to make a system image of some sort (I've never done so). I have an external hard drive I can use, but no optical drive. Can I boot from my external hard drive?

Also, the x200 has a copy of Windows Vista which says it has an invalid activation code (I bought it used). Will this create a problem with the upgrade?

    Thank you for your help!

Are you downloading an ISO file? If so, you can write it to USB flash stick to boot and install Win7: Windows 7 USB/DVD Download Tool[2]=General%20Tips

You can also run Setup file (if you are downloading files or extract ISO to Vista) to overwrite Vista by running a Custom install.

I believe Ultimate Steal (student deal?) is full version, so you needn't worry about qualifying Vista OS. If an Upgrade version, the installer when booted or run will only look for another OS to allow Upgrade version key.

To avoid ever having to reinstall either OS, make a Win7 backup Image stored externally so you can reimage the HD or a replacement in 15 minutes.

You can only install on one machine per license. During activation you will make a robocall that trades numbers to deactivate the old install while activating the new one.

    Hi !
You may use the same copy of windows in various machines, but you are not permitted to activate those using the same product key. So I am not sure that whether you may actually use it.

If you dont have any optical drive, try this tutorial : USB Windows 7 Installation Key Drive - Create .
