Computer wakes for WMC Update

Every few days my computer will wake from sleep in the middle of the night and to find out why I check lastwake from the command prompt and got this in attachment. I looked in WMC and didn't find any auto updating turned on. How do I turn this off? I really don't use WMC that much and don't need it waking my computer to update.

Hi Pdskep! Welcome to SevenForums! Try turning off Auto Updates by:

1. Go to Control Panel
2. In the Search Box at the top right, type Update
3. Under Windows Update click Turn Automatic Updating On or Off.
4. Under Microsoft Update, untick the box, which says Give me Updates for Microsoft Products................

Put your PC to sleep and see if it still Wakes.

Hi thanks Zeshan. I missed step 4 before, but I still want updates, just not for it to wake my computer. Is there a way around that? Thanks

This will only AFFECT updates for Microsoft Products (E.G. WMC). You can choose if you want Windows to ask you before installing updates.

Thanks for the advice all. I have done all of these things and I still have the same issue. It only happens maybe once a week. Not a huge deal, just very annoying.

Interestingly this option(4) doesn't seem to exist anymore.

Computer wakes up after I put it to sleep
Please forgive but I do not know computer lingo or much about computers at all, so be gentle. My problem is this: When I put my computer to sleep sometimes it will wake up on its own and there is no one in the room. If it is still off when I come into the room it will turn when I turn on a...

Computer wakes up from sleep, nothing displayed
Hi, As the title says, occasionally when I wake up my computer from sleep, it will turn on (all of the fans and lights start running) but there is nothing displayed on either of my monitors. If I hard reboot, the problem is fixed. I have my hard drive set to "never turn off" and this hasn't...

Computer wakes 1 second after going to sleep
Title says it all. I have searched for a while and feel like I have tried most fixes I've seen but the problem persists. Weather I manually put it into sleep or not, it goes to sleep for about a second then wakes up, same thing every time. when I run the "powercfg lastwake" command, I get: ...

Computer wakes up from standby - why?
My computer occasionally wakes up from Standby. I have a USB-based KVM switcher providing mouse and keyboard. When I want to put it in Standby, I first switch the switcher to my other computer, then I go into Standby by pressing the power button. When I want to use the computer again, I first...

Media Center Update wakes computer
I don't really use Media Center much but everynight around 2:30 am my PC wakes up after it has been put in sleep mode. I finally tracked the culprit down in the evnt viewer to be the media center update causing it to wake up. Is there a way to turn MC auto updating off?

Win 7 picks its own random update times / wakes up
I have Win7 64 bit on a laptop. It has the annoying habit of waking up (and literally waking me up) usually around 4:20 a.m. It could be waking from something else - in fact I disable the capability of the modem to awaken the computer from sleep. Regardless, I had changed the Windows updates...
