Realtek 8185 wireless connection problem in w7 x64

well it looks like i spoke too soon. Only a day after posting that the card was now working fine its stopped again...typical!

I wouldnt mind so much as i have a USB ireless device that i can use instead...only this one causes BSOD occasionally (IRQ error somehow).

So yet again im back to the 8185 not working.

It detects a network but cannot connect. The network is working fine for other adapters and PCs. I've tried all available drivers. I've reset the network a piece at a time, turning off pcs, router and modem and restarted.

And now halfway through typing this ive noticed its staring working again after 3 days of not connecting. I did nothing to connect it. In fact i tried to connect 10 mins ago and was told there was en error with my router or access point. This is very frustrating! i now dont want to ever turn off or reset my pc in case it plays up again.

Bruce, you really should try to uninstall drivers/device completely in Device Manager, then let the windows find the 8185 and let it install default drivers from 2006. Then you should give the XP 64b drivers a try!

I got fed up with all the troubles that the DIGITUS netcard have given me for months now. I wrote a long e-mail to my dealer with a complete description of all the things I have tried to make it work. Then I brought the PC to my dealer to have them take a look at it. 3 days later I called them up to hear what they have found out. I got the message that the PC was in a queue because they had a lot to do but it really sounded like they had forgotten about it. On the phone he suggested to just change the netcard to another. After all how much time would he be interesting in working on it compared to a price of less than 50 €. So he changed the netcard to a Linksys card and problem is immidiately gone.

So in short ... take that DIGITUS netcard and ram a spike right through the middle of it.

My son is happy with his stable connection and I am happy about that all the troubles have disappeard. It had nothing to do with MAC addresses, radiofrequency on the router, WEP key security, firewall, renewing IPs or anything like that.

Kind regards,
Henrik Berg Andersen

Same problem here. For one week i thought my router was the cause. After i saw this forum by coincidence, now i know that the problem was realtek 8185L. This card contantly confused the router. After i few hours of connection, the router (speedtouch 585v6) resetted or just cut all the wired/wireless connection until i connect/disconnect cable and wireless adapter (2 pc: one wired, one wireless). Now only my sister connect my router's wireless using her laptop for 10 days. No problems. It may be a better option to use another brand/chip.

RTL8187L or RTL8187 AP Mode disconnection Problem

tnx msimango. mine is an RTL8187L or RTL8187. i tried your fix and its almost 1hour already since i did your fix hopefully it works well and doesn't disconnect the other laptop anymore. i got disconnection problems even after updating the driver and application from the realtek site.

what i did with my 8187.ini is i retain a few lines and change everything(can be seen below this). hopefully i don't get disconnection problems anymore and i don't experience the removed settings of ap mode when i restart my computer. i experience that during the old version of the realtek driver and application.

Hello, peeps,

I'm having the same or similar problems.

I have XP and 7 installed, each on a different disk drive. To switch I have to enter the BIOS at boot, but that only takes seconds, and it works without a hitch, and so I am able to get online from XP. My internet connection is fine
in XP.

It took me ages to even get 7 to recognise the connection. Even now, I must open the connection and alter the properties and enter the Default Gateway figures or it just gives me nonsense for the IP addresses. But even when that all works and it
does tell me I have Internet Access, the connection is so painfully slow that it is unuseable. I don't mean slow from an impatient user's point of view, but so slow that everything times out. I cannot get into Google mail, and I cannot download any updates for 7, and I cannot Activate 7. It just all times out.

I tried the script for the ini file. I got all the extra bits, but it did not affect my connection. But thanks for that. How do you know this stuff?

I downloaded the Vista 64-bit files, but they turned out to be for a PCIE card, not PCI - as mine is. My Micronet installation disc offers Win98, XP, and X64 (?) drivers. Nothing works.

Do those of you who tried the Vista 64 bit drivers, and who succeeded, have PCIE cards? Please answer this bit, and if you do not have PCIE cards can you detail the process, including every step of the process; download site address, exact names of files, and exact procedure you used to install the drivers, please? I can't get it to work.

Can I ask that subsequent posts indicate whether you are using PCI or PCIE card? This was the second time that PCIE drivers have appeared. When I first installed 7, and went to Micronet's site and downloaded the 7 drivers, they, too, turned out to be for PCIE, and so failed. God knows why Micronet are, or appear to be, only writing 7 drivers for PCIE cards. How difficult can it be to supply PCI drivers as well? Of course, we also need to know card manufacturer - mine is Micronet, yours may be different. That information would also be useful and appreciated.

I contacted Micronet, and got a reasonable response - no useful help, but I did get responses. The bloke said that 7 should have the drivers for this device. He didn't say where, or how I could get them, though.

This problem is everywhere on the net. It's really massive, as is the whole area of wireless connection with Windows 7. Once again Msoft offers an OS for sale without ensuring that the driver manufacturers are on the case. My wife suffered for ages with Vista. Eventually, totally fed up with her bothering me, I suggested she get 7. She did, and it works, but I haven't updated any drivers for her because Toshiba haven't got any Windows 7 drivers for her, very common, machine. It's a joke, a very unfunny one.

Here's a thing, though. I have never, ever been able to get a connection using the Micronet\Realtek program in XP, and I've been using it for at least 18 months. I always MUST go to Change Advanced Settings\Wireless Networks, and tick the box, "Use Windows to configure my wireless network settings". Eventually the box remains ticked, and I can diss the Realtek program, stop it from loading in msconfig\Startup. Why does 7 not have this feature, or does it?

Here's another. In XP my connection strength is "Excellent" - 70+%, in 7 it's 30-40%. I don't understand how a piece of software can degrade a hardware's connection strength. It's all very curious.

Anyway, keep trying. Thanks all for the input so far.
