3rd party app solution time! The ModernMix app allows for windowed apps in 8. You just have to window each app as you go along using a 3rd party help tool over always have been seeing this as a default function in Windows. Someone at MS was thinking briliantly one day... daaaa... whatever day that was is still a mystery however!
I expect Windows 9 to come out looking eerily similar to 7.
They screw up every other version, you'd think they'd learn, but that sells upgrades.... their real business plan at work.
I am not expecting MS to dump metro.
They might try and make it less unpalatable, or shift emphasis as a temporary measure.
There is nothing wrong with Metro per se as long as they keep it for touch enabled devices. But it has no place on traditional PCs that have no touch capability. And touchscreens on traditional laptops and desktops are anyhow questionable because of the ergonomics - and also because of the smear.
They should have known to offer both Metro and non-metro desktops at release.
I have been using the same basic Windows design since 1992, that's too engrained at this point.
Before Windows, in 1987 I was using Atari ST's TOS, OS on a chip, instant on, but everything else was run off discs, unless you had a very expensive hard drive, talking $600+ for 30 megs, muhahaha But, people ran BBS's on that little in the good old days. *BLOAT*
I suspect you're right SIW2.
M$ seemed way too hard headed about Metro and their "one size fit's all" concept to give up on it, they'll probably just rewrap the package a little bit to try and fool the public and give it another shot.
If so, I hope the public throws it back in their face again.
They have called another Global MVP Summit for November, after just having one in February. I wonder what's up. It's a huge expense surely costing them millions.
