New ~$1,500 gaming/everyday build: Intel Skylake forcing me go to AMD?

Hi,
Well yea gigabyte well it might be more interesting than an asus Tommy had way too much fun with his and went with a asrock
My SkyLake 6700k Journey

Can't hardly go wrong with an asus but the actual asus board I believe on the site you posted was more I don't know anything about the 170A post a link to it if you can.

Otherwise the msi was my favorite and the price was fairly good compared to the others and it was in stock like all the other parts.
Good that you have a psu to use saves for other items :)

Sorry for late replay to anyone helping me to build this system, I was busy with New Year celebrations plus an incoming wedding.

Very smart idea, and all you have to do is sync all the cores to 3.9 GHz in the bios, that way you will get the most out of your i5 6600

https://ark.intel.com/products/88188/Intel-Core-i5-6600-Processor-6M-Cache-up-to-3_90-GHz
I'm looking at the H170 chipset so will I be able to do this trick with this motherboard?

The money you save here you can spend there etc
Tommy had way too much fun with his and went with a asrock
As I said above I'm looking at the H170 chipset because I will always only use one GPU also I will not overclock.
A part these differences between the Z170 and the H170 chipset like GPU ports and overclock, will I miss anything important?
So if I buy the i5 6600 non K and the H170 motherboard I could save around $80, not bad!
What do you guys think about this Asus H170? Amazon.com: ASUS LGA1151 DDR4 DisplayPort HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.1 H170 ATX Motherboards H170 PRO GAMING: Computers & Accessories

Hi,
I believe Newegg has better spec's for it than amazon does and you will have to choose different memory 2133 not 2666 :)

Thanks for help, yes I understand I'll need a 2133 memory, but a part this what do you thing about this motherboard and what memory brand/model do you suggest?
It's disappointing that Amazon doesn't show the specification for any of its listed products.
By the way, I cannot order either from Amazon nor from Newegg because I don't want to spend ~$40 for delivery.
In Australia the best price I found is $179 and I can pick up!

Excuse me for butting in again, but I wouldn't want to spend $40 for shipping either. But the same board is $118 on Amazon + $40 shipping is $158, which even with shipping is $20 cheaper. If all of your parts are similar, you could save a lot of money and get more choices by going that route. Am I missing something?

I checked the price and with the delivery ($14 wowww) so total is $132 BUT there is the currency exchange that kills any deal for us poor Australians!
With the current exchange I would pay ~US180 delivered while on the Australian web site is listed at AU179!

You don`t need a ssd that large, an 850 Pro 256 GB or 850 Evo 250 GB is more then enough for windows.

If being used as a boot drive with only the OS and programs on it, a 120-128GB SSD would be plenty big for Windows unless one is a gamer; then the size of the SSD needed would probably be larger, the actual size depending on the number and size of games one has. This is assuming that there will also be one or more HDDs data storage. However, if the SSD is going to be the only drive in the machine and will be used for booting and data storage, even 500GB may not be large enough.

It depends on what you do with Windows.

Very happy with this buid.
I struggled a lot to find all compatible parts since I wanted an Intel 1151 based motherboard so to be able to install Windows 7.
I chose this case because it has amazing air flow, it's sturdy and looks good.
The case included 1x 200mm front and 1x 120mm back fans, I added 1x 200mm on the top and 1x120 bottom fans and modded the panels with black stockings for women s
Looking at looked's system specs.

Their is plenty of hard drive storage. A 250 gb ssd for Windows 7 should be more than enough.

Trying to figure out Australian tax and tariff laws, plus the money exchange is a challenge by itself.

When I partitioned the the 1TB Hitachi by 2x 500GB I thought that 500GB were enough for the OS and programs but that is not the case because installed games and online games have become extremely HUGE in size so 500GB is just enough.
Consider also that storage is being sold as 1MB = 1,000,000 Bytes also temporary files etc. etc..

We can import up to AUD 1,000 and pay no duty fees but unfortunately once the items cross the Australian borders, delivery is quite expensive and add that the AUD lost so much value!
