New ~$1,500 gaming/everyday build: Intel Skylake forcing me go to AMD?

The mother board was my choice.
The Intel cpu was a Suggestion by a member here and I agreed-ed.
Members on this forum also helped change my choice for video card and power supply.

After 10's and 10's of hours doing research I posted a list of hardware and requested suggestions and opinions on my choices. Waa Laa I got several suggestion. Some I used and some I didn't.
**This method should also work for others.

That is what I call, members working together trying to help another member, (Me)

One can install Windows 7 on a Z170 and a X99 motherboard. One just has to choose.

MS will support skylake till the end of life of win-7
Besides all this so called support is making chipset drivers available through the update system and who in the heck uses MS chipset drivers

I did some checking and MS has indeed extended full extended support to the original EOL of Win 7 and 8.1. I stand sit corrected.

One reason I got Haswell-e instead of Broadwell-e is, unless one needed (or wanted) more cores than Haswell-e, there wasn't enough gain with Broadwell-e to justify the increased cost (six cores are more than enough for me, speed is plenty fast, especially since I don't overclock, and there were no additional SATA ports with Broadwell-e). Also, I was concerned MS may try to pull another retroactive restriction like they tried with Skylake. Also, MS may do the same with Skylake-e before it is actually released, having (possibly) learned its lesson with the Skylake debacle.

My struggling point right now is about what skylake (going with i5 6600K) motherboard and video card to choose from what is available in AU shops.
I'll give you some suggestions, I'm willing to pay around $160 for a full ATX mobo (best value for the price) also I know that I should spend around $ 400-500 for the video card.

One can install Windows 7 on a Z170 and a X99 motherboard. One just has to choose.

I also was considering the X99 based motherboards but these systems are much more expensive.

$355 is awfully high for that CPU, I would look around some more. But I guess everything is higher there.

And don`t rush this, take your time

If you get an MSI board I would get MSI video cards, here are 2 suggestions. These cards are beautiful.

Mike`s suggestion of getting 2 sticks of memory now is excellent, then in 6 months or a year you could get another set of the same exact model and have 32 GB

Corsair Dominator Platinum is the best memory you can buy.

When you finally do start getting parts, DO NOT throw away any of the boxes.

You are also going to need a Solid State drive to install Windows on. All your current hard drives can be used for storage.

What about the Gigabyte GA-Z170X and the Asus Z170-A, on Amazon and NewEgg they are the top discussed and best sellers and cost less in Australia.

I already have a Corsair HX 650W, is that ok for a medium/high performance gaming system?

Your 650 will be fine, just make sure it has an 8 pin cpu power connector for the motherboard. I just pulled my HX750 out of the closet to check and it does, just make sure your 650 does.

You can`t go wrong with Gigabyte or Asus, but Mike`s choice is a good one. I had an MSI board and it never gave me 1 problem.

I might buy the i5 6600 non K version and save a little since I don't plan to overclock.

But many shops here are out of stock of the most common parts so maybe it's better I wait for the end of the Chinese New Year.

Very smart idea, and all you have to do is sync all the cores to 3.9 GHz in the bios, that way you will get the most out of your i5 6600

The Corsair HX-750 is OK. People have had problems with the Corsair HX-750i (despite the almost identical part numbers, the two are not the same).

The "i" is for Corsair Link. It does a bit more than just monitoring according to this, from Corsair"

Also, the HX -750 is made by Seasonic, a manufacturer with an excellent reputation. Someone else makes the HX-750i. People on the Corsair Forums have reported a lot of trouble when trying to use Corsair Link.

However, this is moot if he is going to use an HX-650.

That review didn't test the Corsair link which has given a lot of people grief. The PSU is basically a slightly beefed RM series unit. For very little more, one can buy the much superior AX760 (not the i version, which is inferior). Even the old HX750s are better.
