3 problems after installing windows 7

hi guys ,
i installed windows 7 pro a week ago and everything is working fine except for these problems :

1- the video quality is good but not as good as before , and i tried to install THIS update for my driver but i got this message ( the NVIDIA setup program could not locate any drivers that are compatible with your current hardware.setup will exit now )

2- there is a folder in local disk C called windows.old , is it safe to permanently delete that folder ?

3- every time a try to shutdown my computer i get this message :

force shutdown cancel )

and sorry if i wasn't clear but English is my second language .

1. The reference Nvidia drivers won't install on Nvidia video cards in Sony laptops. not sure what other models have the same 8400M GS in them, but thie drivers here,

should install as the INF has been modded to install on any Nvidia mobile GPU.

2. Yes it is. That folder is created when Windows was previously installed and you don't format the drive before installing Windows 7, and contains everything from your previous Windows install. It can be removed by running Disk Cleanup and select it from the list. Before you do go through and double check for any file/pictures/documents/etc that you might have forgot to backup, then remove it.

3. Most likely caused by a program or driver (or possibly lack of proper driver) not shutting down properly. Does it by chance say what is hanging? Check in Event Viewer. If you can't determine what it is you can use this,

Shut Down -Speed Up

to force it to shutdown faster.

How did you get a Windows.old folder if you clean installed to a new HD per your other thread?

I am on the WIPE and DROP full fresh install instead of upgrade band wagon, tales of Vista upgrade woes are all over the place, don't be one.

It's fortunately not too hard to deal with once you backup anything that concerns you.
[Bookmarks, pix, documents, game saves, etc]
Easiest if you have 1 partition for OS and rest of HD as 2nd., only have to wipe the one.

Go into Computer Management in 7, then Disk Management (under Storage) within the app to see what your HD situation is and can do some limited manipulation there.

He has other thread that says he did fresh install? Interesting...

Did you boot the Win7 installer or run from Vista? The Custom>Drive Options to Delete partitions, create New, and Format will only appear when you boot the DVD.

As long as you didn't do an in-Place Upgrade, then it's probably clean enough especially with the new HD.

Check optional Windows Updates to see if any newer drivers have been delivered. Then check the Device Manager to see if any drivers are missing or in error. If so, find them on the Support Downloads webpage for your computer or device model. Try the video driver from there, too.

As Stormy suggested, check the Event Viewer>Admin View to google repeat errors to find a solution. Also on Advanced Tools menu (accessed by clicking through WEI score link at Computer>Properties) check the Performance log and Generate a System Health Report.

1-I run it from vista .
2-No windows update available , i tried update every single driver in the device manager and their all up-to-date.
3-I'm already using the video driver from vaio's website .
