DV6 gadget and cooling fan problems
I have a HP DV6 that is about 2 years old. Ever since new the fan has run at a very high sound level (think NASA wind tunnel) but the DV6 was running very warm so I figured that this was a normal, albeit unpleasant condition. After an 18 hour downtime (normally it is always on and booted-necessary rebooting is always done immediately so no down time) and after rebooting the fan was making strange noises-like bearing vibration. After a while it settled down to a much lower sound level but the heat level had risen to a very high level. Upon the next reboot I got the message that there was a fan failure and I reboot at my own risk with risk for system shutdown. As I was trying to solve my other (gadget) problem I decided to try anyway. The gadget problem is that some of them donīt show correctly and there is a magenta background that shoudnīt be on some of them. This problem occured after the first reboot after the system downtime. I ran several cleaning and repair programs with rebooting inbetween sometimes hoping something would help. Finally I ended up with the situation that the fan is running at about the same sound level, albeit not running completely smoothly, as my DV7 which sits right next to it and the heat level is just a little warmer than the DV7 but much cooler than anytime before! This seems like it would be a normal operating condition but Iīm scared to death of having to reboot and having the old problems returning. So, to my questions: how do I fix my gadgets and why have I had fan/heat problems for such a long time? Is this a software problem that has resolved itself? As I said the fan is not running completely smoothly but there is no high temperature problem as before. What to do?
