Hi all,

Recently my laptop is giving me issues, it took a long time to do anything at all. Some times it states that window explorer stops responding. I tried going into safe mode and use the sfc /scannow feature but it auto dismisses after 7% verification. I am not sure what's the cause of all this issue but it started since Monday. I tried to do a system restore as well but it didn't work.

Also the funny thing is, the windows antivirus and windows defender all got disabled when I logged in. I hope someone here could assist with my issue before I decided to do a clean reboot. Thank you.

When you say "windows antivirus" got disabled, what exactly are you referring to? Is this an installed antivirus or something else? Malware is known to disable antivirus programs.

You could try downloading, installing, and running full scans with these free products: Malwarebytes, ESET Online Scanner, SuperAntispyware, Comodo Cleaning Essentials, etc.

According to your system specs you have AVG installed.
When you installed AVG it probably turned off the other anti virus programs. It's not wise to run more that one anti virus at one time on one computer.

After completing marsmimar suggestions please let us know what the result are.

Hi all,

thanks for the advise. I have decided to do a clean wipe and reinstall everything from scratch again. When i start my computer this time round. There is this message that says 'Windows detected a harddisk problem'. What can I do to check whether it is in error?

This is probably the longest I've ever had a Windows machine run without having to restore it to scratch. I'm used to restoring to "factory" about every 2 yrs. I've run with Win7 since new in 2009 and only recently (Nov, '14) restored to clean up the machine from all my 'xperimenting. LOL!! I may never need another machine.

Upgraded to 10 when it was still free, then installed 2017 update.

If the hard drive is failing it would be a good idea to back up any important data. Running any kind of diagnostics on the hard drive could stress it and cause it to fail sooner rather than later.
