How did this happen?
I was on Win 7 pro x64 late last night and was about to turn off when the screen went blue 'Do not turn off Windows updating'. I DID have windows update turned OFF..... the last time I looked they was disabled! So.... who turned them on? How can I stop this?

Can you just shut it down? I use Win 7 Pro and have seen none of this . . . knock on wood; but I am looking for a way to buy all of the Win 7 Pro microsoft updates if anyone knows of any . . . I think Microsofts bullyism is for the birds.

I hope you force shut down the system. If not you can look in windows update to see what it installed.
If you forced the system to shut down. then at every restart it will go back to installing. Keep doing the force shutdowns until you get a window saying "The update could not be installed. Reverting your system.
I have had to do this on more then one occasion, and sometimes as many as 8 shut downs.

You can get all the updates to Jan. 2026 free.
It may seem to be a little complicated, however I can walk you through it if needed.
Jan 13 2026 was the last update for server R2, which can be install on any version of Win 7
