Hi,
I'm using an older computer (DELL E6500) that can still be very useful with SSD and even not that much of RAM. I reinstalled the OS only about 6 months ago and found out that a certain windows update makes it freeze. To be fair, on a machine like this, I didn't want to mess up with updates anyway after the initial reinstall, so I turned the WU off. That still let some updates go through however and I can always tell right away because my laptop would freeze so I'd have to go the last restore point which is made with the update. And then I went to register to turn the update service off altogether since just turning it off in windows update was not enough. And well, you guessed it. My computer just froze again, I looked at the restore points and, even though it didn't say it was the WU update this time (it only said automatic restore point), it definitely helped. Sure, it can be caused by another program but I have no knowledge about anything that would also use the Restore point by it's own besides Windows Update. Maybe MS Security Essentials that I use but that's it? I'm a little baffled about this.
