Solved Printing a list of installed programs

Is there any way I can print out a list of installed programs in Win 7? There are 82 of them. I know I can use Gadwin Print Screen on a Control Panel Programs and Features window but the the print out is too small for these tired old eyes.

I want to do this because I am about to get a new computer and plan to use the Windows Easy Transfer, or what ever it is called, to transfer this computer to the new one. It would be easier to install the programs first and then transfer all of their settings.

If you have CCleaner it can be done easily.

You can open the text file with Notepad or any text editor. Print it out if you need a hard copy.

As an aside, I wouldn't put much faith in Windows Easy Transfer. Maybe it works. Maybe not.

This also works to print programs. I just tried it:

Open a command prompt.

Navigate to C:\program files

enter this command at the prompt:

dir /b programlist.txt

Hit the enter key. The file "programlist.txt" can then be found in the Program Files directory. Print it if you need to.

Do the same thing for the Program Files (x86) directory:

Navigate to C:\Program Files (x86)

Enter this command: dir /b programlist(x86).txt

Hit the enter key. The file "programlist(x86).txt" can then be found in the Program Files x86 directory. Print it if you need to.

WOW! That was easy. I've not used CCleaner very much and has no idea it would do the job.

That did not create the programlist.txt file on my disk anywhere I can find. Shouldn't there be some sort of redirect character before programlist? It has been years since I did that sort of thing in DOS

Yep. My error.

Try this:

dir /b > programlist.txt

That didn't quite do it. I got an 'access denied' error. However, if I redirected it to another drive or to another folder on C:, it did the job. If I tried dir /b > c:\programlist I still got the 'access denied' error.

Anyway, with your help I got what I needed.

Standard didn't work but Elevated did. I think that might have been the first time I ever used Elevated

Yes. Belarc Advisor is one of the first utilities after Acronis True Image that I install on any computer. It seems it provides more information than exists.

in Command RUN type "msinfo32":

In opened dialog click on “Software environment” then tap “program groups”, So you can have copy of the list now.
