Need help loading Quicken Basic 2004 on Windows 7 Pro (64-bit)

I have a Windows 7 professional (64-bit) computer. I have been using Quicken Basic 2004 on my Windows XP (SP3) system. I would like to load and run it on my Win 7 machine since it does the job I need it to. I have searched the internet and read many ways to load and run Quicken on the Win 7 system including this link:

I am interested in doing it without using XP mode. I am having trouble installing the software. Here's what happens:

1. Create a folder on Drive C and copy the entire contents of my factory Quicken disk into the folder.

2. The way my Quicken disk is organized is as follows:
a. The root directory has install.exe (among other files)
b. There is a subfolder called "DISK1". In that subfolder is Qsetup.exe (dated 6/21/2003) and Setup.exe (dated 8/8/2002). I'm not sure the dates are significant.

3. The instructions that came with my CD state that if the installation does not start immediately (as in start when the CD is inserted), then to run the install.exe file.

4. With information on many website links, I right clicked on install.exe (in the folder on the C drive) and chose the "Compatibility" tab, I then selected "Run the program in compatibility mode for: Windows XP (Service Pack 3)" and also "Run this program as an administrator".

5. I then ran install.exe

6. I got the following error for the "install.exe" file:

"The version of this file is not compatible with the version of Windows you are running. Check your computer's system information to see whether you need an x86 (32-bit) or x64 (64-bit) version of the program, and then contact the software publisher."

7. I then changed the compatibility mode the Windows XP (Service Pack 2) and continued to select "Run this program as an administrator". I got the same error code.

8. I did let the Windows 7 Compatibility Troubleshooter" analyze "install.exe" and it wanted to use Windows X (Service Pack 2). I tried that but it still did not run install.exe (although no error).

I have not tried to bypass the install.exe file and try to install with another .exe file.

I would like any help or other experiences that you may offer. Thanks.

You have a 64 bit operating system.

As It states, it is not compatible with your system type. Meaning it is a 32bit application. Usually, 32 bit programs work fine on 64 bit platforms. x64 is backward compatible (usually) But some older software for whatever reason does not work sometimes. You have tried all the usual methods, so I don't think success will be in your favor.

Unfortunately, the only solution I can think of is to use xp mode, or update quicken. It costs about $20-30 to upgrade, why not do it?
