SOLVED: Build 7100 RC no longer has this problem.

outlook 2007 will not connect to my exchange server. I have tried the setup multiple times on new installs. Anyone have experience with outlook exchange setups that could help find out whats missing between vista and 7?

I just readup on this yesterday... downloaded last night, have not gotten to try. Although i read where a guy had to create secure certificates for the network for each computer... did alot of skim reading on this as there was lots to find. Will try to find you the article. It has to do with the extra security win7 has. Check back here later

thanks. I dont know where to start in looking for my domain. I just started using exchange server for work and as such I don't know the IT side of it (honestly dont care :) we pay for someone else to take care of that sort of thing)

I do know my webmail address etc, could you explain a little more? Or fill me in when you get it up and running on your machine? thanks

I have found the issue, and solved the problem

Through looking through some other posts it seems that Windows 7 has an issue with NTLM Authentication. To get the server to connect to your exchange server, you need to define your NTLM LOCAL security policies. to do this:

Open Control Panel

Open Network and Internet

Click on the left side "System And Security"

Next click on Adiminstrative Tools.

Now click on the shortcut for "Local Security Policies".

Natigate to "Security Options".

Scroll down to "NETWORK SECURITY: RESTRICT NTLM:"

Under Add remote server exceptions, you need to add your server under the exceptions rule. Under Add Server exceptions, you need to add your server under exceptions. You may enable auditing if you wish but I have disabled it. Next Most importantly you need to enable incoming traffic. The next field down says restrict all incoming traffic, you need to DISABLE this. and for the last step under "OUTGOING NTLM traffic", you need to set this to allow.

Once this is done, go into mail and setup your outlook box as normal. You do not need to put DOMAIN\Username. Just put the username as normal, and I used to server.domain.com, which my provider had listed as the "proxy exchange sever".

Next you will be prompted for login information needing your username ([email protected]) and password (password). Once this is done, it closes and you need to open outlook. LET EVERYTHING SETUP. Once that is done close outlook and wait for approx 2 minutes open back up and enjoy.

Thanks for the reply. I plugged along for quite a while without it working. When Build 7100 RC came out I decided to try it again and this time it works without any issues at all. It appears that MS has rectified the problem with the earlier builds.

i had this problem appear after months of working fine. for some reason, clients machines were switching from our OWA site (webmail.company.com) to server.company.com on the exchange proxy settings of the connection tab. also, the "only connect to proxy servers......" box was checked off. this did not occurr manually, but happened somewhere in the background. easy to fix, but very strange that it happens at all.
