I first realized there was a problem when YouTube videos wouldn't play. Also no sounds on online games. There were no indications of a hardware problem in Device Manager or the speaker icon in the TaskBar . I tried a sound file that was already in the system and it was okay. Just couldn't hear sounds online.
Cleared the cookie for YouTube, but it didn't help. I shut down, rebooted my modem and router and restarted. That has, for now, fixed that issue. I just wanted to know what may have been the problem in the first place?
